Money Heist Season 1 Episode 13 Recap

[00:00:10] Salva answered the phone, and Denver was shouting at him, asking him why he didn’t warn the team about the hostages escaping. He asked Salva where he was, but before Salva could answer, Helsinki brought Oslo into the room and told them about his injuries. Helsinki asked Denver who planned the escape and how he knew. He told him that Arturo told him. Berlin told Helsinki that Oslo was in bad shape, but he didn’t want to give up. He took some vials and injected Oslo. He assured everyone that they had been through “worse colds” than this and that everything would be alright.

[00:03:20] Rio started collecting trash from the hostages. Mercedes approached him to ask where Pablo was as she was concerned for his safety. Rio commanded her to sit down, but she insisted. Rio told them that Pablo had escaped along with some hostages and that there was nothing to worry about. Mercedes stood up and started applauding, Rio told her to stop and sit down, but the rest of the hostages followed in her footsteps. Rio did his best to stop the hostages, but they no longer listened to him. He pointed his rifle at Mercedes, but none of them stopped. Tokyo had had enough of their antics and fired her pistol into the roof. Everyone sat down except for Mercedes. She stared at Tokyo, but due to fear, she sat down as well.

[00:06:30] We’re taken back to the villa where Moscow was practicing how to shoot his rifle with Helsinki. Everyone was having a good time. The Professor told them that sooner or later the hostages would resist. When time had passed and they saw that nothing was happening, their survival instincts would make them do something, and they would try to escape. Nairobi didn’t believe him, but he assured them that when that time came, they would need to regain control as the hostages would no longer fear them and they would need to use empathy. The professor explained that people were brought together by a common want or need. He told them that they had something greater than football or sex, it was money.

[00:07:50] Their plan was to make the hostages choose if they wanted money or freedom. The catch was choosing freedom would leave them empty handed as they exited the mint. All they had to do was convince them, and so they did. Nairobi had already convinced Francisco Torres to join them as he told her that this was the best job he had ever had. He had never had a boss like her. Arturo didn’t believe Berlin, and Mercedes chose freedom instead of money. Nairobi was trying to convince Monica, but she was still having second thoughts.

[00:10:40] The police started interviewing the hostages that escaped. Jacinto pointed out where the security cameras are located. Pablo told them where the tunnel they were digging was located, as well as the items that he found inside the mint including ammunitions and explosives. Both of them identified the names of the members of the crew. They shared what information they had about the crew and identified Berlin, Tokyo and Rio based from the pictures shown to them by the police. Pablo told the police that Rio guarded Alison. Jacinto also told the police that he hit Oslo with a pipe.

[00:12:00] Raquel arrived at the command center, and the police stopped the interviews to speak with her. Colonel Prieto showed her Angel’s eyeglasses. They found the microphone that was embedded within the frame. He told her that Angel was not a traitor. Suarez and Prieto consoled Raquel. She was in shock and disbelief. They knew that Raquel blamed herself for Angel’s accident. They told her that she was only doing her job and that they would’ve done the same since all the evidence pointed towards Angel.

[00:13:00] Back in his hideout, Salva looks at a news report saying that Angel was in a coma after his accident. Raquel’s mother arrived at home and she listened to their voicemail. She listed down what Angel said and tried to call Raquel, but she wasn’t answering. She tried to leave a voicemail, but Raquel’s mail box was full. Raquel told Suarez and Prieto that Angel tried to call her that night, but she didn’t answer. She started to listen to his voicemails as she imagined what had happened to Angel the night of his accident.

[00:16:00] Raquel got up and left the command center, headed for the mint. Suarez and Prieto were informed through the radio that she was approaching the mint. They chased after her. Raquel arrived at the mint entrance where Helsinki pointed his gun at her. The laser pointer aimed directly at her forehead as Suarez and Prieto arrived to pull her to safety.

[00:17:10] Berlin spoke with Ariadna and asked her if she would choose money or freedom. She answered that she wanted freedom, but Berlin wasn’t happy with her decision. He told her that she must consider a few things before she made her final decision; one was that they had a relationship and another was that freedom is full of unforeseen events. He compared these events to baby eagles that jump to their deaths assuming they were ready to fly; another was baby rabbits who left their den only to be eaten by wolves. He told her that it would be more dangerous to leave than it was to stay and that he wouldn’t want anything bad to happen to her; nevertheless, he gave Ariadna a few hours to make up her mind.

[00:19:20] Denver spoke with Monica as to what her decision will be regarding their offer. She told him that she needed to get out because she was pregnant. She wanted to see a obstetrician and a doctor who specializes in gunshot wounds. Denver suggested seeing an internist for her gunshot wound. He asked her if one million euros wasn’t enough to make her stay. He told her that she would be set for life with that kind of money but Monica disagreed. She was worried that she would get gangrene from her injury and become a cripple.

[00:20:00] Denver told her that they would figure it out once it happened; he wanted to stay positive instead of looking at this from a negative perspective. He also told Monica that she was doing great inside the mint; she also had her own room pertaining to the vault as a presidential suite. Monica asked him why he insisted that she stayed, if he had fallen in love with her. Denver couldn’t respond. Monica didn’t believe him as no one could fall in love within 60 hours, but he defended himself saying that he already did a lot for her in 60 hours. He told Monica that time didn’t matter in their situation which was enough for her to agree to stay with Denver.

[00:21:30] Raquel’s mother opened her closet and removed a couple of sticky notes. She took the note with Salva’s phone number and called him. Salva answered and Raquel’s mother introduced herself again. She told him that she had an important message from Angel for Raquel but she couldn’t reach her. Salva agreed to take the message to Raquel and she told him the voicemail that Angel left. He told Raquel’s mother that he would deliver the message and ended their conversation. Salva was shocked; he didn’t know what to do. Angel knew his identity. Tokyo narrated that the professor had planned everything to precision, every possible move from the police and the hostages even every possible mistake that his team could make, but he didn’t account for his own mistakes, and now he would need to eliminate Raquel’s mother to make sure that their plan would not go to waste.

[00:24:20] Raquel took a sedative inside the command center to calm her nerves. Colonel Prieto and Suarez assured her that everything would be alright. Prieto told her that the Commissioner would take over the command center so that she could get some rest. Raquel called Salva and asked him to come and get her. She told her that she was having the worst day of her life and that she needed to get away from the command center and from the city. He told her that he already had a “prior engagement” and ended their conversation.

[00:26:00] Salva rang the doorbell, and Raquel’s mother answered the door. He introduced himself, and she let him in. Back at the mint, Berlin checked Oslo but he was still unresponsive. He told everyone in the room that the injury he had sustained must have caused irreparable damage. Nairobi told Berlin that they should take Oslo to the hospital, but he told her that no one could leave. He reminded them of the Professor’s rule, but no one cared. Nairobi told him that the professor wasn’t there when the hostages escaped and he wasn’t there when Oslo was attacked. She suggested that they open the doors, call the police, and let the medical team take him out. Berlin reminded them again of the rules; he told them that even Oslo knew about the rules, and they mustn’t break them.

[00:27:15] Tokyo interfered saying that the hostages escaped and therefore the rules had already changed. Berlin argued that the hostages do not know their plan and their escape don’t count. Rio joined in their conversation; he suggested that they have a vote on whether Oslo should be taken to the hospital or not. He had complete trust that Oslo wouldn’t rat them out once he recovered. Berlin had had enough of their arguments; he took out his pistol and pointed it at Nairobi. He told them that they didn’t have the luxury of a democracy. Nairobi, Rio and Tokyo all pointed their guns at Berlin. It was three against one, but Helsinki intervened. He lowered Berlin and Nairobi’s weapons and told them that Oslo would not leave. He had spoken with Oslo before the heist, and they chose death before prison. Helsinki told them that he would take care of Oslo.

[00:28:40] Salva spoke with Raquel’s mother; he admired their home. She told him that Raquel wasn’t home because she worked too much. She offered coffee, which Salva politely accepted. He sat at the table while she prepared him a cup. He poured dioxin into her cup as his plan was to induce cardiac arrest and leave so that no one will suspect a thing. Salva waited for her to drink her coffee as he held his cup. She continued their conversation by telling him that Raquel didn’t come home last night. She asked him if Raquel was with him. He confirmed and told her they had gotten together last night. She smiled and asked him if they made love. He awkwardly confirmed what happened.

[00:32:00] Raquel’s mother apologized for intruding. She told him that Raquel desperately needed to love and have sex. It made her happy to know that it was with a good man. As she was about to drink her coffee, Salva slapped the cup out of her hand. He hit the cup with so much force that it shattered upon contact with the wall. He didn’t move a muscle after what he did. Raquel’s mother was shocked and confused as to what happened. After a few seconds she told him that she dropped the cup. Salva stared at her in confusion as well; he didn’t know what was happening.

[00:33:50] Helsinki played the harmonica for Oslo. Arturo entered the room, and Helsinki told him that Oslo could no longer speak. Arturo apologized for what happened, but Helsinki told him that he knew about the escape. He mentioned to Arturo that Denver had already told him. Arturo tried to make an excuse, but Helsinki wasn’t buying it. He showed him the pipe that Jacinto used to hit Oslo from behind. Helsinki told Arturo that he did everything with Oslo. They went to war together, attempted robberies together, and that he was his friend. He told him to get on his knees.

[00:35:15] Arturo didn’t want to get on his knees, but he had no choice. He asked Helsinki if they thought that the hostages wouldn’t fight back, that they would just accept what the crew was doing to them. Arturo manned up. He told Helsinki that he would do it a thousand times more if he were given the chance. He asked Helsinki to kill him quickly because he might kill them instead if he let him survive. Arturo made the sign of the cross as he prepared himself to die, but instead, he heard the pipe clang against the floor. Helsinki had dropped the pipe and turned his back on Arturo.

[00:37:10] Raquel’s mother asked Salva to get the mop and broom so that she could clean up the mess from what happened earlier. He got the mop and broom and noticed the sticky notes all over the place. He read the sticky notes on the counter top and found the sticky notes that contained Angel’s messages. Salva hid them inside his pocket and asked Raquel’s mother if he could make a phone call. She told him that he could and he listened to the voice messages. He heard Angel’s voice message and deleted it. He told Raquel’s mother that the person he was calling wasn’t answering.

[00:38:50] After a few moments, Raquel arrived and Salva welcomed her with flowers that he picked from her garden. He told her that he was there because it was the “prior engagement” that he mentioned earlier when she called. Raquel’s mother entered the room to tell her that he was a sweetheart and that they made love. Raquel was embarrassed. Salva told her that he didn’t tell her anything and that she must have pieced it together on her own.

[00:39:50] Salva was back to his old self, he teased Raquel’s mother saying that her soup was the best soup that he has tasted thus far. They talked about Raquel’s job and the heist that has her all stressed out. Salva told her that he had been following what was happening by listening to the news. He told her that there were gunshots and explosions and that the robbers seemed to be armed to the teeth. Just as Salva finished talking, it hit Raquel. She had an idea and decided to call Suarez immediately. She excused herself from the table and went to her bedroom. She called Suarez to tell him that the robbers must have a hideout in Toledo near the pharmacy.

[00:41:30] Raquel also told him that it needed to be a huge area because they were practicing weaponry and explosives. Suarez told everyone in the command center what to do and had all of his men looking for the house that Raquel was talking about. Raquel ended their conversation just before Salva knocked on her door. Salva came in and asked her if she was doing okay; she told him that she was given a sedative in the command center to calm her down and that she needed to rest.

[00:42:50] Nairobi drew a line on the mint’s floor as Tokyo told the hostages that the time has come for them to decide whether they will become an accomplice for the money or if they will choose freedom to retain their integrity. Only a handful of hostages chose freedom. Alison questioned Nairobi and Tokyo as to why she wasn’t allowed to choose. They told her that she was the star hostage and therefore she would stay until the end. Mercedes noticed something odd and stopped some of her students from choosing freedom.

[00:44:40] Arturo noticed what Mercedes did, so he knew he was making the right choice by not choosing freedom. The professor told them that those persons that chose freedom would be taken to the basement and kept locked up as they were the ones that could cause a revolt if not removed from the rest of the hostages. Tokyo told them to place their hands above their heads and to go to the loading bay area.

[00:45:20] Salva lay beside Raquel as he stared at her. He caressed her when suddenly a phone call came in. Suarez informed Raquel that they found the estate that matched her description. He told her that they found the estate due to a neighbor providing details that he had heard an explosion within the past few months and gunshots that weren’t the sound of hunting rifles. Suarez sent a tactical team to the area and were awaiting orders. Raquel told him to send the details to her phone and that she would get there immediately.

[00:47:00] Berlin and Salva had a drink back when they were still at the villa. Berlin called him Sergio. He wanted him to promise that if things got ugly he would escape, but Salva assured him that everything would be fine. Berlin told him that everything could go wrong. He told Salva that he wouldn’t go to the heist unless Salva made the promise, but the professor told him that he wouldn’t make that promise. Berlin threatened him that unless he made the promise, he would be left without a captain for the heist. The professor assured him that nothing would go wrong as they were the resistance. As he spoke, he sang “Bella Ciao”. It was a song that he taught them during their days in the villa. It represented the resistance.

[00:49:50] Raquel guided Salva to the villa. He knew where they were going, and he knew that Raquel would see everything that they had planned. As they approached the villa, he got more nervous. He listened to the radio as they uncovered everything. They had access to all their DNA and Raquel saw all of their plans in the attic. Raquel had hit the jackpot.
