Money Heist Season 1 Episode 9 Recap

[00:00:10] Monica woke up to find Denver sleeping in front of her. Unable to stand up due to her wound, she carefully reached for a bottle of water across Denver’s chest. Unable to resist the urge, she caressed Denver ever so slightly as to not wake him up. As she came to her senses, she reached for the bottle again and crawled back to her side of the vault.

[00:02:10] Berlin watched TV as a newscaster reported false information about him. First, they reported that he was a thief and then a sex offender. They also said he was involved in human trafficking and extortion of minors. Lastly, they accused him of being a snitch. Nairobi mocked him in disgust as the news got more and more unbearable with each statement. She couldn’t believe that he had done all these things. She questioned his motives and goals for tying up one of the hostages in his office.

[00:03:20] Berlin grew angry. He choked Nairobi and slammed her on the table. She tried to defend herself and hit Berlin, but it had no effect on him. He told her that he wouldn’t sell women nor be their pimp; his moral code prevented him from doing such things, especially ratting out his colleagues, no matter how evil they might be. Nairobi couldn’t do anything but agree to save her skin.

[00:04:00] Apparently, the police found Berlin’s prints inside the Professor’s car. He was curious as to how his prints ended up inside the car. Berlin remembered that Denver had slept inside the car and used his jacket back when they were still living at the villa. He asked Nairobi if she knew where Denver was. She responded that she didn’t know.

[00:6:20] Moscow lifted the steel flooring that he cut from Vault 3. Tokyo entered the vault to assist him, saying that the sooner they finished digging, the sooner they could leave. Moscow asked if she was already getting tired of being trapped inside the mint. Tokyo told him that she was getting bored. Moscow sarcastically responded that she was bored with 67 hostages and with shooting the police with her rifle. He asked her if that was the reason she threatened Alison inside the women’s bathroom. She jokingly answered that she did it to provoke him while he was inside the stall. Moscow asked her if she was also getting bored of Rio, which offended Tokyo. She asked what made him think that she’s getting bored with Rio. Moscow answered that she was the type of person that parents do not want their child to be involved with.

[00:08:00]  Moscow talked about what happened in Toledo when Tokyo snuck out with Denver to go to the festival. Denver was trying to get in bed with Tokyo; they were talking together, lying in her bed. It seemed that he liked her, but his father could see right through her. Moscow interrupted their conversation and entered the room. Denver was irritated. He did his best to get his father to leave, but Moscow didn’t want to. This was the reason why Denver spent his night inside the Professor’s car. Tokyo asked him if she wasn’t good enough for his son. He says she’s too much for Denver because she lives her life like a video game. Tokyo told him that she just enjoyed life.

[00:12:00] Moscow disagreed; he told her that she enjoyed jumping from one relationship to another without thinking of what she left behind, which was death. Moscow asked her if it was her boyfriend who came up with the idea of a heist. Tokyo didn’t answer, which made it obvious that she planned the heist and got her boyfriend killed. She was also the reason her mother died, and now it was Rio’s turn to get killed by her attitude and outlook on life. He told her that she was selfish and superficial. He wanted to see her finish what she started, even just this once. Moscow could accept if they did their job and everything went south, but he couldn’t accept it if everything went south just because Tokyo was being a brat.

[00:13:00] Denver woke up, and Monica was sitting across from him. She told him that she was about to wake him up. He asked how long he was asleep, but she couldn’t tell him how long. Denver jokingly told her that it was the first time he woke up, and the woman he was sleeping with was still there. Monica told him that she had no choice but to stay because she couldn’t leave due to the gunshot wound.

[00:14:00] Denver told her that he saved her life from Berlin, but Monica disagreed. She told him that he didn’t do anything but shoot her leg. He didn’t refuse when Berlin ordered him to kill her, nor did he defend himself against Berlin. Denver humiliated her, and now she was locked up in the vault, unable to breathe or go to the bathroom. He apologized for what he did and offered to bring Monica to the bathroom. Monica accepted his offer.

[00:15:00] The Professor was walking down a street when he saw a police car. He followed them and saw them enter a bar. He walked to the bar window to check where the police were. The Professor approached their car. He tried to enter, but it was locked. He picked up a rock to break the car window, but he thought of another plan. Meanwhile, Berlin was looking for Denver. Nairobi rushed to him and told him that he was right, Denver might have dropped the button during that night, but it was not enough reason to kill him.

[00:17:30] Helsinki and Oslo were also looking for Denver. They reported to Berlin that he was nowhere to be found. Berlin told Nairobi that Denver ruined his honor and that anyone who ruins his honor must be destroyed. Nairobi pleaded with him not to ruin their plan, but he had already made up his mind. Helsinki pointed his gun at Nairobi to stop her from following them. Nairobi told them that the jacket thing was just a joke.

[00:19:00] During the night of the festival, Nairobi, Tokyo, Denver, and Rio planned to sneak out and go to the festival. As Nairobi and Tokyo were getting ready, Rio entered the room. He showed off that he had already got the car keys. They were just waiting for Denver when he came in, showing off his look. They asked him if it was Berlin’s jacket, he replied that it was. Nairobi told Denver that Berlin would kill him for taking his jacket. They headed off to the festival, but none of them had known that Berlin would literally kill Denver for what was going to happen.

[00:20:30] Rio was packing up their money when Tokyo entered the room. Rio noticed that something was wrong. He asked Tokyo how she was doing. She asked for his opinion on how he thought she was, and he answered that she was amazing. Tokyo told him that she thought that she was unreliable and that she always ended up screwing everyone else. She also mentioned that she didn’t like the way she was, and the book inside the office said she was a toxic woman. Rio thought she was just making an excuse to break up with him. Tokyo told him that she was damaged goods, but he thought she was just fine as she was. Rio knew that she’d eventually leave him, but he wanted them to try to make their relationship work for a little longer. As he put it, “She doesn’t have to leave now.” Tokyo agreed.

[00:23:15] Inside the command center, Raquel called the Professor, but there was no answer. The sketch of the Professor was already finished. Nikolai confirmed that the sketch was accurate. Meanwhile, the Professor successfully got inside the police car, where he radioed in that there was an armed robbery taking place across the street. The policemen hurried to the store that he mentioned, and he began with his plan. He changed the radio channel and spoke in Russian; Nikolai heard everything the Professor said.

[00:25:00] The Professor told Nikolai that if the sketch looked like him, he would no longer see his family again. Nikolai immediately erased the sketch. Raquel saw him and rushed to him, but again, she was too late. Raquel asked him what he heard, but he told her that he didn’t hear anything. She radioed their dispatch to ask where the Russian message came from, and they told her that it came from a police car. She radioed the policemen, and they told her that they had received a false robbery call and that they were exiting the store. Raquel told them to rush back to the police car as someone was inside using their radio. They confirmed that someone had entered the car, but he was no longer there. She told them to look around, but the Professor was gone.

[00:26:30] Berlin was still looking for Denver. He continued to call out his name as he walked around the premises. He found Denver as he exited one of the bathrooms. Berlin told him that his face was currently being televised. In addition, they called him a thief. Berlin told him that he could live being called a thief but not as a pimp or someone who abuses children all because of his carelessness. Denver didn’t understand, so Berlin explained it to him. Berlin shared how Denver caused his misery all because he wore his jacket that fateful night.

[00:27:40] Denver apologized and offered Berlin 15 million euros from his share of the heist for the button. Nairobi arrived to try and convince Berlin to just let Denver go. Berlin thought that something was amiss. He asked Denver what was going on, but then he heard a toilet flush inside the bathroom. He entered the bathroom to investigate.

[00:28:40] Raquel was back at the café, and she ordered a cup of coffee. Angel went over to join her and inform her regarding retroxil. The medicine was used to treat Helmer’s myopathy and would only work for 1 out of 10 people. Angel told her that if Berlin wasn’t that 1 out of 10, he would be dead in 24 months. Raquel knew that Berlin had nothing to lose, which made him a very dangerous man. Meanwhile, Berlin began to check the stalls of the bathroom. The first two stalls were empty.

[00:30:00] Denver and Nairobi stand outside the bathroom, waiting for what’s about to happen. Denver tried to stop him, but he couldn’t. He reached the third stall and knocked on the door. Monica responded and asked if Denver was knocking at the door. Berlin opened the door and found Monica; he told Denver that he ordered him to kill her last Friday, and it was already Sunday. He sarcastically shouted “Resurrection Sunday” and praised the Lord. He closed the door to let Monica finish what she was doing.

[00:31:30] The Professor returned to his hideout after successfully carrying out his mission. He immediately called Berlin, but no one was answering. Berlin told Denver that the moment he saw Monica lying on the floor, he knew that something wasn’t right. Berlin recapped the good and bad things that they needed to settle at that moment. The bad thing was how Denver disobeyed him. He instructed him to kill Monica because she compromised their plan, not to mention there was also the button that ruined Berlin.

[00:32:30] The good thing was that Monica was alive. Berlin questioned which of the two weighed more, a hostage who was alive or Denver who disobeyed him and ruined his life due to his carelessness. It was at this moment that Berlin pointed his pistol at Denver. Helsinki and Oslo did the same. Nairobi pulled out her pistol and aimed at Berlin, asking him to put down his weapon.

[00:33:10] Denver told Nairobi to put her weapon down, and as he reached for her hand, he swiped the gun from her and pointed it at Helsinki. Denver was now holding on to two pistols. He pointed one right at Berlin’s face. The situation had escalated to a Mexican standoff. Nairobi told everyone to calm down and lower their weapons; she was frantic. Denver had had enough of Berlin and how he ordered people around. He was willing to end it at that moment. Berlin had other plans; he opened the stall door and pointed his gun at Monica. Then he told Denver that life weighed more and decided to lower his gun. He told Helsinki and Oslo to lower their weapons as well. Once again, everything was theatrics with Berlin. He told Denver that there are certain times that life becomes a miracle, and at that moment, it’s worth celebrating.

[00:35:10] Tokyo entered the bathroom, wondering what was going on. She saw Denver pointing his pistol at Berlin. Tokyo told Berlin that the Professor was calling. Everyone went upstairs, and Berlin talked to the Professor. He asked where Berlin went. He responded that he went on a spiritual journey and came back a changed man. The Professor told him that he was the one who placed the button inside the car. It was punishment for killing a hostage.

[00:36:00] Berlin told the Professor that his feelings were hurt by what he did, and he brought Monica to speak with him. She introduced herself as proof that she was still alive. Berlin expressed that it was unfair to receive punishment for something that he didn’t do, but the Professor wasn’t sorry. He told Berlin that Monica was not alive because of what he did. Due to this change of events, The Professor told Berlin to proceed with Plan Valencia, and their conversation ended. Berlin cocked his rifle and told everyone to proceed with Plan Valencia.

[00:37:15] Berlin ordered Helsinki and Tokyo to open fire. Raquel stood up as she heard the noise. One of her officers told her that it was gunfire from M16’s. Berlin joined the shooting, and multiple hostages were shouting at the top of their lungs. The isolated hostages quivered in fear as they heard the screams of their fellow hostages. At first, it sounded like they were shooting at the hostages, but they weren’t. Everything was just for show. Nairobi instructed the hostages to scream as they shot at empty barrels. It was Plan Valencia.

[00:38:10]  Angel reported to Raquel that their lab had already analyzed the recording and heard gunshots from three M16 rifles. Raquel called the Professor to confirm the situation inside the mint. The Professor responded by asking her for a greeting; Raquel wasn’t in the mood for playing games. She called him a lunatic. Raquel offended the Professor. He told Raquel that he had treated her with respect and professionalism all throughout their negotiations, and he expected that she to do the same. He ended the conversation and wanted to start over. Raquel slammed her receiver; she tied her hair back and called him again. Raquel spoke casually with the Professor. She even engaged him in a sarcastic conversation. Eventually, they got to the point where she asked him regarding the shots that they had heard earlier.

[00:40:40] The Professor told her that they were just testing out some weapons. Raquel told him that it was a plausible excuse, but she thought that everything went south, and they shot all the hostages. The Professor told her to be more positive. Raquel asked for proof of life videos from each hostage so that she could assure their safety. The Professor agreed, and Raquel gave him an hour to provide them. Raquel ended their conversation, and the Professor called the crew and ordered them to prepare the videos.
