My Hero Academia Season 2 Episode 13 Recap - Time to Pick Some Names

Internships

The school festival break ends with Midoriya fully healing from his wounds and now it’s time to return to class. That morning, he finds Iida running to school with a raincoat on. He tells Midoriya that there’s nothing to be worried about his brother.

The students of 1A share stories about their newfound popularity after the televised sports festival. Aizawa comes in with his wounds fully healed and announces the need for everyone to pick their hero code names. Students should expect calls from pro-hero agencies by now, which may continue on until their graduation period.

As expected, Bakugo and Todoroki gain the most offers, with the others distributed in lower numbers. Todoroki’s offers come first place with Bakugo in second. Uraraka feels excited to be one of the top selections. The opposite of Midoriya, who has none. The reckless use of his quirk must be the cause of that.

But regardless if they’ve received any offers, students are still expected to join internships to hone their experience and productivity as future heroes. Hero names will be temporary, but they’ll have to be serious with it. Midnight comes into the classroom to help explain how their names will be tied to their professional career. She’s come to evaluate everyone’s choice of names while Aizawa sleeps in the corner.

Code Names

Midoriya and the others ponder on what their professional names could be. After a time, Midnight lets them present their ideas to the class. Aoyama presents his name as “I can’t stop twinkling,” while Ashido calls herself “Alien queen.” The teacher asks them to come up with better ideas. Tsuyu presents her name as Froppy, which gets approval from the whole class.

Kirishima presents his name as Red Riot, inspired by an old-school hero named Crimson Riot. Midoriya remembers all of the names he came up with when he was young, which were all loosely based on All Might’s name.

One by one, the other students present their names which garner approval from Midnight. Until Bakugo comes and calls himself King Explosion Murder. Uraraka then gets applause for her name Uravity. The only ones left to come up with names are Iida, Midoriya, and Bakugo. Iida remembers his brother telling him a day before that his legs are now paralyzed. He gets the offer to carry the mantle of Ingenium, but he can’t accept it as of yet.

Midoriya presents his name as “Deku”, which baffles his classmates, knowing that it’s an insult from Bakugo. But he explains that he wants to change the meaning of his name “Deku,” just as Uraraka told him.

After deciding on their names, Aizawa hands those without offers a list of agencies to choose from, along with their specialties. Some agencies are suited to rescue work, while others focus on catching criminals.

Agencies

The students discuss their choices and opportunities, with Deku mumbling to himself about his options again. Uraraka lands on Battle Hero Gunhead’s Agency, where she is given an offer. After the fight against Bakugo, she now wants to learn a bit of combat experience.

Before heading back home, All Might meets with Midoriya to discuss his sole offer from a hero. It’s from Gran Torino, a retired hero and former teacher of All Might. He happens to know about One for All too.

Aizawa checks on his students’ agency choices and notices that Iida specifically chose an agency in Hosu, Tokyo, even when he had offers from other better agencies.

Later, Midoriya learns of Ingenium’s situation from the news. He was attacked in the Hosu area by a villain known as the Hero Killer, Stain. A criminal who’s killed heroes in the past and injured many others.
