My Hero Academia Season 4 Episode 4 Recap - Fighting Fate

Fateful Encounter

Mirio leads Midoriya as they patrol the streets, saying there’s nothing to be worried about. Midoriya remembers Sir Nighteye’s words about Mirio’s candidacy for succession, and wonders why All Might didn’t say anything to him. What could have happened to cause a rift between the two former partners?

Mirio tells him his hero’s name is Lemillion, based on his ambition to save at least a million people. Suddenly, a little girl bumps Midoriya from one of the alleyways. She checks in with the girl, who looks visibly distressed. Then a man comes in from behind her and scolds her. His description matches that of Overhaul–the villain they’re gathering intel for.

Overhaul apologizes for his supposed daughter’s actions. Mirio nonchalantly affixes Midoriya’s mask and apologizes to Overhaul for bumping into her. He asks about the man’s mask and if it has any connection to Shie Hassaikai but the man denies it. Mirio tells him they’re merely newbies scouting for an agency before asking permission to leave. Midoriya is about to follow, but then the girl grips his sleeve tightly and asks them not to go.

He starts probing about the girl’s situation as his hero instincts start enacting. Overhaul leads them to the alleyway to explain his situation, but after a few moments, the girl named Eri lets go of Midoriya and follows the man. Overhaul apologizes to them both and leaves.

Eri’s Fate

Mirio holds back Midoriya and tells him to wait for Sir Nighteye’s orders. They meet up later to discuss the previous incident with Overhaul and the accident with the Team Reservoir Dogs. This was the incident that caused them to keep an eye on that gang. Midoriya tells them about her daughter Eri and her situation, citing that they could have helped her then. Nighteye warns him not to do anything rash and see the big picture in order to catch this villain.

As Overhaul brings Eri back to their lab, he gets a call from Shigaraki.

Back in class, Midoriya can’t stop worrying about Eri, which distracts him from his school work. He goes to All Might for advice, but first asks him why he didn’t mention Mirio’s candidacy. As his successor, he wants to know what’s going on.

All Might tells him of his collaboration with Nighteye. He was a great superfan and advisor at first, but they disbanded years ago after a disagreement. Nighteye wanted All Might to retire soon after his major injury, but he wanted to keep the Symbol of Peace for longer. Nighteye has seen a future of him dying from a villain attack if he keeps on this path. This caused the rift between them.

Defying Fate

Principal Nezu recommended Mirio to be his successor back then, but before they could meet, he had already met Midoriya. He apologizes for not telling him sooner since he’s a fan.

Midoriya is left thinking about the gravity of All Might’s predicted death.

After All Might told Nighteye about passing his quirk to Midoriya, it caused the rift between them to grow wider. To prove himself right, Nighteye decided to take Mirio in and train him.

Midoriya rushes back to All Might and asks for the extent of Nighteye’s foresight. It reaches up to six or seven years, which makes the prediction come true in a year or two. Midoriya fears that their time together might be too short for him to prove himself worthy.

All Might admits that he thought the battle with All For One was his end, but Midoriya was there to inspire him to keep going. All Might promises to go against fate and keep living, just as he promised Midoriya’s mother. Midoriya invites him to defy destiny together.
