Preacher: AMC Is Ready to Renew the Series For Season 3

When “Preacher” first premiered on AMC, the series’ future seemed very shaky. But despite this, a second season was ordered and it has since then garnered a decent amount of devoted fans. Now, these fans can rejoice as there are high hopes for “Preacher” Season 3 to happen, according to CBR. Although AMC hasn’t put out any official statement yet, the network is getting ready to continue the production on the series.

“Preacher” is about to wrap up its second season, and it has been sticking very close to its comic book source material. The current storyline of the show is occurring within the Big Easy, which also where the series is being filmed. The network hasn’t announced the official return of “Preacher’s” three main protagonists, Jesse (Dominic Cooper), Tulip (Ruth Negga), and Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun), but the paperwork is being filed in preparation for the third season.

High Hopes for ‘Preacher’ Season 3

Back in July, AMC filed some papers for them to continue on filming at New Orleans for season 3. Filed in the Louisiana Film Office, the planned start date of production is on January 5, 2018 (with pre-production set to begin in November of this year), and an overall budget of $70 million ($50 million will be used while shooting in Lousiana).

This is the second time that “Preacher” will be filming in Louisiana. The first season was set in Texas but filmed in New Mexico, and the second in New Orleans. It’s also good to see the budget for the series increase, from the previous $67 million budget to $70 million. Once AMC acquires the necessary permits, the filming schedule would most likely point towards a summer 2018 premiere.

However, it’s important to note that AMC hasn’t released an official announcement for “Preacher” Season 3 yet. These permits don’t necessarily guarantee the third season officially, it’s just a way for the network to film on location whenever they want to. It’s also still possible for the series to be canceled if viewership doesn’t turn out well for the network.

But until an official word is out, fans can look forward to a bright future for “Preacher.”

“Preacher” continues with “On Your Knees” Monday, September 4th on AMC.
