DC’s Stargirl has finally found who’ll be playing its two primary villains in the second season of the show on The CW.
Nick Tarabay who Arrowverse fans would recognize as Digger Harkness/ Captain Boomerang from Arrow would be taking on the series regular role of Eclipso while The Affair star Jonathan Cake will recur as The Shade.
The arrival of these two villains has been teased in the finale episode of Stargirl’s first season when Cindy finds a mysterious diamond shard in The Magician’s locker. In addition to that, Stargirl creator and executive producer Geoff Johns also teased their debut at the New York Comic-Con. “Eclipso is so terrifying. I’ve always loved the character, and he’s a very different antagonist or villain than the [Injustice Society of America],” Johns said. He also noted that The Shade is “the most powerful of them all, and very threatening because no one knows exactly what he wants.”
Eclipso is an ancient entity of corruption and vengeance whose life essence is trapped inside a blue diamond. After the Injustice Society of America (ISA) falls in Season 1, DeLacy’s Cindy steals the diamond. Filled with nothing but a cold and terrifying darkness, Eclipso revels in the impure and sinful and exploits the flaws of others while feeding off the dark side of humanity.
The Shade, on the other hand, is an English immortal who has magical shadow powers. He was formerly a member of the ISA until he betrayed Icicle (Jordan Mahkent). The character maintains a 19th century way about his speech and manners but little else is known about his personality.
Tarabay most recently starred in Syfy’s The Expanse, Starz’s Spartacus: Blood and Sand, and Freeform’s Motherland: Fort of Salem. He also appeared in films like Star Trek Into Darkness and Pacific Rim: Uprising.
Cake most recently appeared in Grey’s Anatomy. Before that, he was in The Affair, SEAL Team, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. He also appeared in the 2019 film Entangled.
In addition to them, Ysa Penarejo is also said to appear in Stargirl’s second season in an undisclosed role according to Deadline. She recently starred in the Netflix series Project Mc2 and also Richie Rich. She also appeared in the drama horror series Red Ruby as well as the TV movie American Girl: McKenna Shoots For the Stars.
Stargirl’s second season will premiere on The CW in 2021.
