Swamp Thing Final Trailer: What To Expect From DC Universe’s New Series

DC has dropped the final trailer for Swamp Thing, the third live-action series in the DC Universe streaming platform. The trailer is no doubt better than the first and seeks to draw in viewers from both sides, the normies and comic book nerds.

The trailer gives us a better look of  Andy Bean as Swamp Thing and his origins. Furthermore, it features plenty of new horrifying footage that sheds more light on the overall plot of the series and the characters.

Swamp Thing Final Trailer: Origins

The trailer starts by showing a young girl bleeding from her nose in class, before dropping to the ground. From there, everything goes awry. The town descends into chaos as people are quarantined, the hospitals are overrun with diseased patients, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) desperately trying to figure out what is going on.

The CDC brings in a researcher, Abby Arcane played by Crystal Reed (Teen Wolf) to investigate the swamp-borne virus. At this point, she comes into contact with Alec Holland, a scientist who’s been investigating illegal dumping in the swamp. When mysterious organizations take an interest in the swamp and its properties, Holland is caught in the middle. We assume this is how he (Holland) is somehow transformed into the titular monster we know as Swamp Thing.

Swamp Thing: History & That 80s Movie

Swamp Thing has been played by many characters but hardcore DC fans will recognize Alec Holland as it’s most popular. His origin seems to take a similar route to how he is portrayed in the comics albeit slightly changed.

In the character’s DC Comics origins, Holland is a scientist who is synthesizing a top-secret chemical to cure hunger, but after a bomb in his office explodes, the young scientist is thought to be dead. Instead, he rises as the Swamp Thing, a creature made of vegetation that’s absorbed Alec Holland’s memories, personality—and grief.

However, the trailer hints at a different iteration of his origins with it being his investigation of illegal dumping. Regardless, the trailer echoes similar storylines in accordance with the comics so comic book nerds shouldn’t expect too much deviation from the source material.

This isn’t the first portrayal of Swamp Thing in pop culture. The character made it’s first big-screen debut in 1982. The story of that movie was a lot more faithful to the source material but with the absence of CGI, bad makeup and prosthetics, the character wasn’t done justice in its appearance.

Swamp Thing in DC Universe and Potential Crossovers

There hasn’t been any word yet on whether DC’s new installment in the universe will connect with other shows like Doom Patrol and Titans. But with the success of the CW’s Arrowverse, it is very likely DC will want to have a crossover in the future.

Swamp Thing is set to hit the DC Universe streaming service on Friday, May 31.
