Sweet Home Season 1 Episode 9 Recap

[00:01:00] The tenants attended yet another funeral; this time, it’s for Jae-Heon. The old man said a few words to honor his memory as Ji-Su did her best to get up and attend. She couldn’t accept Jae-Heon’s death, so she didn’t stay at the funeral. Ji-Su cried her heart out as she remembered the last thing Jae-Heon told her. Jae-Heon confessed his feelings for her. Eun-Yoo went to Ji-Su to give her a box of chocolates.

[00:04:00] Ji-Su wanted Eun-Yoo to leave because people kept dying around her, and she thought it‘s her fault. Eun-Yoo told Ji-Su that her life was much worse than hers. She was an orphan because her parents died in a car accident after watching a ballet show. Eun-Yoo wasn’t blood-related to Eun-Hyeok, but she also ruined his life. Eun-Hyeok stopped his studies to help her with her ballerina dreams. She was determined to pay Eun-Hyeok back, but she couldn’t even become a ballerina because of her ankle injuries. Eun-Yoo told Ji-Su that she would survive with her just to prove that she wasn’t unlucky. She gave Jae-Heon’s broken katana to Ji-Su. Eun-Yoo told Ji-Su to stop making her life miserable.

[00:07:30] Sang-Wook went to Jae-Heon’s grave. He brought the soju bottle Jae-Heon was drinking. It had his name on it, so Sang-Wook poured the remaining soju on his grave. He told Jae-Heon that he could now drink as much as he wanted. Sang-Wook did his best to hold his tears back. Meanwhile, the army caravan got attacked by a monster. Most of the soldiers died. The commander told her men to burn the deceased. One of the soldiers escaped and used their vehicle to go to the Green Home apartments. The old man told Yi-Kyung that they needed to find a bunker underneath the building. The army vehicle arrived as they were talking. It forced its way into the building by ramming the front gates.

[00:11:00] A group of men came out of the army vehicle, but they weren’t soldiers. They looked more like mercenaries or gangsters. The gangsters came to Green Home because they were searching for the runaway soldier. They cut off his thumb and used it to open a briefcase, but it didn’t open. They killed the runaway soldier and went to find all the other survivors within the building. The old man told Seong-Yu to hide and not get caught. He hid inside the air vent. The old man got caught while Sang-Wook stayed hidden and silent. He didn’t want to interfere because the gangsters didn’t know he was there. They took the old man and brought him with the other tenants. They passed the air vent where Seong-Yu was hiding. One of the gangsters heard his cry and went to check the vent.

[00:16:00] Meanwhile, Yi-Kyung went to the army vehicle to steal the briefcase. He didn’t find Yu-Seong, but it seemed a monster had taken him. Su-Yeong was looking for her little brother, but the old man told her to keep quiet because he’s doing fine. The gangsters drew a red circle and placed all their prisoners inside it. One of the tenants got pushed out of the circle, so they killed her instantly. They told everyone they would die if they left the circle. Everyone was too scared to do anything, so they ran back inside the circle to avoid death. Yi-Kyung was hiding from the gangsters inside the building. She almost got caught, but luckily, the gangsters weren’t so bright.

[00:19:00] One of the gangsters found Ji-Su sleeping in the laundry room. He played with her wound and licked her blood. Another gangster told him to come back; their boss was looking for him. The leader introduced himself as Shin Jung-Seop. He wanted to get along with the other tenants, but the old man didn’t believe him. He told Jung-Seop they couldn’t get along after what he did to one of them. Eun-Hyeok asked Jung-Seop what happened in the place they came from. Jung-Seop told them they found a small fortified church, but everyone inside was already dead when they got in. A monster didn’t kill the people; they killed each other. Jung-Seop told Eun-Hyeok that they should worry about monsters because humans are the scariest monsters of all.

[00:23:00] Eun-Hyeok told Hyan-Su they needed to wait for their opportunity. The gangsters only had a few weapons, and they hadn’t caught Sang-Wook or Yi-Kyung. The two were taking down the gangsters one by one. Yi-Kyung hid a weapon, but Sang-Wook took it to intimidate two of the gangsters. The gangsters saw that the safety was still on, so they asked Sang-Wook if he knew how to use a rifle. He told them he didn’t, so they tried to fight back but failed. Yi-Kyung arrived just in time to knock out one of the gangsters before he fired his weapon.

[00:26:00] Jung-Seop found the plans Eun-Hyeok wrote inside the office. He went over to ask who the leader of the group was. Eun-Hyeok stood up to tell him he was the leader, and he wrote the plans he found. Jung-Seop offered Eun-Hyeok a chance to ally himself with them. He didn’t have any choice as Jung-Seop told him they would kill him if he disagreed. Eun-Hyeok agreed and sided with the gangsters. One of Jung-Seop’s men told him there’s a monster inside the building. Meanwhile, Yeong-Su returned to Yi-Kyung and Sang-Wook. They saw a monster inside the air vents, but Yeong-Su told them not to hurt it — the monster had saved him earlier. Yi-Kyung allowed the monster to leave.

[00:29:00] The monster that Jung-Seop found was Seon-Yeong. Eun-Hyeok tried to save her by telling Jung-Seop she was still human, but he didn’t care. Seon-Yeong tried to fight back, but they held her down and shot her. Everyone heard the gunshot; they thought Jung-Seop had killed Eun-Hyeok. Eun-Hyeok couldn’t accept that Jung-Seop killed Seon-Yeong so easily. Yi-Kyung told Sang-Wook they needed to act now before more people died. Yi-Kyung went to the area where the hostages were being held. She distracted the gangsters into chasing her and lured them into Sang-Wook’s trap. He killed two of them easily.

[00:34:00] The chase continued as Yi-Kyung outsmarts the other gangsters and traps them inside the store. Seon-Yeong came out of the arcade and killed one of the gangsters. They tried to kill her, but she’s immune to bullets. She saw Eun-Hyeok and tried to kill him. She thought Eun-Hyeok betrayed everyone. Hyun-Su stepped in front of her to block her attack. He tried to reason with Seon-Yeong, but she refused to listen. Hyun-Su strangled Seon-Yeong until she passed out. Jung-Seop checked on Hyun-Su’s wound and discovered he’s already healed it. One of the gangsters poured gasoline on Seon-Yeong’s body and burned her to death.

[00:37:00] Jung-Seop and his men rode the elevator and took Hyun-Su. The other gangsters got back. One of them told Yu-Ri to check on Ji-Su. The gangster tried to rape Yu-Ri, but Ji-Su saved her. The gangster punched Ji-Su a few times on her wound, causing her to pass out. Yu-Ri took the broken katana and used it to kill the gangster. Yu-Ri was shaken up with what happened. She realized she had just killed a man. Ji-Su called out to Yu-Ri for help, but she wasn’t responding. She took out her inhaler to have a puff to calm herself down.

[00:41:00] Jung-Seop took Hyun-Su to the rooftop while Yi-Kyung freed the hostages. She managed to kill two of the gangsters. Once everyone was free, they went to look for Yu-Ri and Ji-Su. Sang-Wook saw Yu-Ri gasping for air, so he picked up her inhaler and placed it in her mouth. Yu-Ri told him she killed one of the gangsters. Sang-Wook told Yu-Ri that what she killed was no longer human. Jung-Seop was planning to kill Hyun-Su by throwing him off the side of the building. One of his men suggested they just burn Hyun-Su but Jung-Seop refused. He wanted to have some fun with Hyun-Su.

[00:44:30] Hyun-Su stood up and tried to walk toward the exit. Jung-Seop thought it was pathetic that Hyun-Su still had the will to live, so he shot his shoulder. Hyun-Su struggled, but he got up and closed the rooftop door. He told Jung-Seop none of them would survive to go back downstairs. Jung-Seop laughed at Hyun-Su and responded that he’d kill him slowly and as many times as needed until he died for good. Suddenly, a man named Jung Ui-Myeong attacked Jung-Seop. He threw him off the building, instantly killing him. Hyun-Su asked Ui-Myeong why he killed Jung-Seop. He responded he wasn’t their ally at all. Ui-Myeong just tagged along, and he got tired of Jung-Seop.

[00:48:00] Hyun-Su told Ui-Myeong some monsters don’t kill humans. He brought him to Du-Sik’s apartment to show him the womb structure that was still throbbing. It was still developing the baby monster inside it. Hyun-Su successfully convinced Ui-Myeong about a monster that doesn’t kill humans. He asked Hyun-Su if there were humans who wouldn’t kill monsters. Meanwhile, one of the gangsters showed a flyer distributed by the Korean army. It was about special infectees like Hyun-Su and Ui-Myeong. The army assured refuge for anyone who could provide information about their whereabouts.

[00:50:00] The tenants saw the elevator going back down; they prepared for the worst. Inside the elevator, Hyun-Su looked at his reflection and thought about what Ui-Myeong had told him. He was having doubts whether the tenants would turn him over or not.  The elevator was moments away from reaching the ground floor. Sang-Wook joined the other tenants and brought Yeong-Su to join them. They pointed all their guns at the elevator doors, waiting for it to open.
