Confirmed: FOX’s The Exorcist Up for Season 2

After the long predictions among fans whether Fox will put an end or push through with its horror TV series “The Exorcist,” the final say has arrived. The verdict: renewal. Lo and behold, a season 2 of “The Exorcist” soon. Soon, because apparently, the release date is still uncertain.

The Exorcist: What is it about?

The new TV series is a sequel to the 1973 feature film and novel of the same name by Peter Blatty. This horror drama television series follows two priests—one progressive and compassionate and the other obsessive and abrasive. Meanwhile, the Rance Family finds itself caught between these two in a horrifying case of demonic possession.

“The Exorcist” season one debuted on the giant network FOX in September 2016. On May 12, 2017, the series was renewed for a second season. It stars Alfonso Herrera as father Tomas Ortega and Ben Daniels who plays the character of Father Marcus Keane.

A Not-So “Miraculous” Renewal

Evidently, the horror TV series is well received with a massive cult following. However, it remained to be but a modestly rated drama for a big network such as FOX. So how exactly did it make the cut?

Viewers seemingly left the TV series dead for the past month. So it having a chance to return for another round can be quite surprising. But doubt no more, because Fox ratings can give you a comprehensible analysis of how this came to be.

According to Entertainment Weekly, taking a look at the average rating of “The Exorcist” of over 3.2 million viewers outweighs the numbers garnered by some other FOX shows like “Rosewood,” “APB,”Sleepy Hollow” and “Scream Queens.” Most of these series are only having ratings around 0.9 to 1.0 average ratings. So “The Exorcist” having a 1.2 rating plus a trickle few bad reviews is totally dominating the scene in this case. Apparently, this renewal of the series is making a whole lot sense.

Better start spinning your heads appropriately now that FOX has finally confirmed “The Exorcist” Season 2.
