'The Good Doctor' Adds a New Resident Surgeon and Competition for Shaun

There’s a new doctor in town! Fiona Gubelmann will join the cast of “The Good Doctor” as the latest resident surgeon at San Jose Bonaventure Hospital.
Following Jared Kalu’s (Chuku Modu) firing in the fall finale episode, all his efforts to reinstate himself in the hospital never came through. Although Dr. Claire Brown backed him (Antonia Thomas), Dr. Marcus Andrews (Hill Harper) remained firm in his decision to fire Jared for physically assaulting Dr. Matt Coyle (Eric Winter). With St. Bonaventure in need of a new resident surgeon, Gubelmann is set to fill Jared’s absence.
In a report by Deadline, Gubelmann will play Morgan, “a charming, funny new resident who is fully embracing life and yet also quite cutthroat (but it’s never personal).” However, Morgan isn’t just the new kid in town—she is set to be a new rival for Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore). It’s a good conflict development for Shaun, seeing how he’s always been the star (don’t get us wrong, it’s a good thing!). Gubelmann will appear in five episodes during the first season of “The Good Doctor,” with a high likelihood of being promoted to series regular for the upcoming second season.
Gubelmann is best known for role as Jenna Mueller in the FX comedy series “Wilfred,” alongside Elijah Wood.
As for the second season, the show hasn’t been picked up for it yet but is definitely on the horizon.
“The Good Doctor” continues next Monday with “Islands Part Two,” at 10/9c on ABC.
