'The Mandalorian' Season 2 Sets October 2020 Premiere, Spin-Offs On the Table

The not-so-lone bounty hunter is returning to Disney+ sooner than you think. Pedro Pascal’s Mando (now officially known as Din Djarin) will continue his intergalactic exploits together with The Child—AKA Baby Yoda—as The Mandalorian returns for season 2 in October 2020.

Disney CEO Bob Iger made the announcement during a financial earnings call for The Walt Disney Company this week (via Entertainment Weekly). What’s more, Iger sees great potential for characters in The Mandalorian to have their own spin-off shows in the future.

As Star Wars movies take a back seat for the time being, Iger plans to make Disney+ shows like The Mandalorian the main thrust of the franchise right now. The CEO teased that the Cassian Andor Rogue One prequel series starring Diego Luna is on its way to the streaming service, while Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan series is still looking for a new writer to work on the show’s script. Meanwhile, the final season of Dave Filoni’s widely-acclaimed The Clone Wars is set to premiere on February 21.

Iger also revealed that there’s still more to explore in the vast world of The Mandalorian, so we can expect a broader story for its second season. And with characters like Gina Carano’s Cara Dune, Carl Weathers’ Greef Karga, and Giancarlo Esposito’s villainous Moff Gideon, Iger believes that it’s possible for any of them (or new characters to be introduced in season 2, for that matter) to have their own separate shows from The Mandalorian. For one, Moff Gideon has an interesting story given the weapon (Darksaber!) he wielded in the last moments of episode 8. Some fan theories even claim that Boba Fett himself may have already appeared in the show after the brief altercation between rookie bounty hunter Toro Calican (Jake Cannavale) and Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) in episode 5.

The Mandalorian took the world by storm after it premiered in November last year. It became Disney+’s flagship show especially after The Child was revealed to have the same force-sensitive powers as that of Jedi Master Yoda. Not much is known about The Child, but Din Djarin now has the mandated task from the Mandalorian armorer herself to protect The Child at all costs and bring him back to his species.
