'The Voice' Season 13 Knockouts Part 2 Recap: Miley Steals Adam Pearce, Interesting New Renditions

For the latest episode of the biggest singing competition “The Voice,” coaches Miley Cyrus, Blake Shelton, Jennifer Hudson and Adam Levine challenge their team for knockout rounds you can’t miss. With interesting match-ups and a steal by Miley, the Knockouts Part 2 definitely got the crowd on their feet.

Miley Chooses Brooke Simpson and Moriah Formica

The Voice Season 13

The first performance of the night was a beautiful rendition of Aretha Franklin’s “Natural Woman” performed by Brooke Simpson. Brooke had already impressed the judges since the Blind Auditions of “The Voice” Season 13, but as she trains herself further in the challenges, she grows to be an even better artist than when we first saw her. With her smooth low tones and flawless transitions to powerful high pitches, the crowd went wild.
Against her was a rendition of Shontelle’s “Impossible” by Stephan Marcellus.  It’s an interesting choice for Stephan as the song was originally sung by a woman and it hit a few high pitches. He attempted to sing it naturally with his tone quite nicely, but it wasn’t enough to win Miley over.
Another pair on Team Miley to battle it out would be Moriah Formica and Whitney Fenimore. Moriah was first to sing a rock rendition of Kelly Clarkson’s “Behind These Hazel Eyes.” It had been a fiery performance—and props for Moriah for dressing spot-on for this. The judges were definitely wowed by her lively singing—hitting all the notes and singing it with her own twist.
Meanwhile, Whitney Fenimore sang a Train song entitled “Calling All Angels.” Blake praised her for her clear enunciation of words, and true enough she had us all hooked on her melodic storytelling. Unfortunately, she fell on a few flat notes along the performance.

Blake Shelton Chooses Mitchell Lee and Keisha Renee

The first pair on team Blake was Anna Catherine DeHart vs Mitchell Lee. Mitchell stayed true to his brassy voice, and was encouraged by Kelly Clarkson to reach a higher pitch for his rendition of Edwin McCain’s “I’ll Be.” His performance was quite a fantastic one—like you were watching someone who had been performing for years. He was so natural on stage, Blake found himself feeling ‘melty.’
On the other hand, Anna Catherine performed a Faith Hill song called ‘Breathe.’ She started off sounding a little nervous. As the song progressed though, she attempted to strengthen her voice and she succeeded for a few moments. Her voice became full and more prominent—but there were still a few shaky notes especially on a particularly high note. Adam expressed this to Anna after her performance.

Jennifer Hudson Chooses Noah Mac

On Team Jennifer, Jeremiah Miller and Noah Mac hashed it out. Jeremiah tried on Justin Bieber’s “Sorry.” On his attempt to perform it as his own, he was able to create a unique-sounding rendition. Unfortunately, the song didn’t match the style of his voice which made his performance a little off.
Meanwhile, Noah gave us a little throwback singing “Hold Back the River” by James Bay. One outstanding element in his performance was his flawless low notes and the effortless climb to a transition for a high note. Not to mention that he looked like he was totally in his own game—dancing on stage, head-banging and owning the stage completely.

Adam Levine Chooses Emily Luther, Miley Steals Adam Pearce

Team Adam had quite a striking contrast on the latest pair for the Knockout rounds. Emily Luther’s soft, melodic voice versus Adam Pearce’s raspy, rock-music type of voice. Adam performed first, singing “Smoke the Water”—it was definitely a lively performance, but there was little clarity in hearing the lyrics. He owned the stage like his very own live rock concert—and it was definitely one of the coolest things ever. Not to mention that he hit the high note in the end impressively.
Emily Luther’s voice though, immediately shifted the atmosphere of the stage—making it like a surreal, dream-like experience. With her graceful singing and steady voice that could hold durations of a note,  she caught the audience in her web. She sang a rendition of Pink’s “Glitter in the Air”—the perfect, if not most suitable song choice for her voice.
Here’s the latest list of the teams:
Team Adam: Hannah Mrozak, Anthony Alexander, Emily Luther, Jon Mero, Addison Agen, Adam Cunningham
Team Miley: Janice Freeman, Brooke Simpson, Ashland Craft, Moriah Formica, Adam Pearce
Team Jennifer: Chris Weaver, Shi’Ann Jones, Davon Fleming, Noah Mac, Katrina Rose
Team Blake: Mitchell Lee, Esera Tuaolo, Keisha Renee, Red Marlow, Megan Rose, Chloe Kohanski
