‘The Voice’ Season 14, Episode 17: ‘The Live Playoffs’ Night 2 Recap

The Live Playoffs continue with the 20 singers doing their best to get enough votes from the viewers. In one way or another, the contestants need to perform as if it would be their last performance in “The Voice.” That is if they want to earn that coveted spot in the Top 12. Only eight slots are left to fill the entire roster of the competition, and it’s getting tougher by the minute.

Team Blake: Spensha Baker

After struggling during her Live Playoff performance in “The Voice” last night, Spensha came back with a bang! Spensha sang Carrie Underwood’s “Smoke Break” where she was able to showcase the real power of her voice.

Indeed, Spensha sounded “more country,” and it’s a good thing for her to be able to connect to the genre more. However, she needs to step it up even more to be part of the Top 12.

Team Blake: WILKES

WILKES failed to show something new during his last “The Voice” Playoffs performance. But tonight, WILKES was able to prove that his voice is versatile and unique at the same time. Wilkes decided to sing “Don’t Speak” by No Doubt.

WILKES sang effortlessly, even if it to others, it’s not. During his second performance for the Live Playoffs, he owned the stage and became a star! WILKES is the kind of singer that anyone would want to hear on the radio and this is probably enough reason for him to be in the Top 12.

Team Blake: Pryor Baird

Unlike WILKES, Pryor didn’t show any improvement during his second Live Playoffs performance in “The Voice.” He still sounds the same.

Pryor delivered Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5.” Pryor needs to discover other styles for his voice as well as different ways to improve his singing abilities. This way, he can easily be on top of the competition.

Team Blake: Austin Giorgio

There’s no doubt that Austin is one of the best singers in Blake’s team (arguably in The Voice too). Austin is not just consistent in his performances, but he is also able to show some new sides of him. Tonight, he stepped out of his comfort zone and sang Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself.”

Although his performance wasn’t the best, the most important thing is that Austin proved to the coaches and the audience that he could sing something new and he did well even if he’s not really into the genre of the song.

Team Blake: Gary Edwards

Gary decided to sing a traditional song called “America the Beautiful.” Although Gary was able to perform with confidence, it seems that something was off and this is not a good sign for him.

There are many great singers in Team Blake so Gary should have stepped up his game, but it looks like he didn’t.

Team Alicia: Terrence Cunningham

Terrence performed the way he did during his Blind Auditions in “The Voice”—sitting at the piano while singing a song. But could he ever deliver something new and refreshing?

Terrence performed Chaka Khan’s “Ain’t Nobody,” and it seemed like he inserted too much artistry in his performance.

Team Alicia: Christiana Danielle

Christiana did well during her first “The Voice” performance for the Live Playoffs and for the second time around, she nailed it! Christiana sang Hozier’s “Take Me to Church.” She used her well-developed and powerful low tones to impress the coaches and everyone in the studio.

Considering how the coaches love Christiana, there’s no doubt that a lot of people will vote for her.

Team Alicia: Jackie Foster

We have heard some versions of Heart’s “Alone,” but Jackie delivered another version of the song that every one of us will surely love. Apparently, Jackie was way better tonight compared to her last Live Playoffs performance in “The Voice.”

Team Alicia: Kelsea Johnson

Kelsea performed Jazmine Sullivan’s “Need U Bad.” Kelsea did her best during the Live Playoffs, but with the talented singers in Alicia’s team, it would be hard for her to be in the Top 12.

But even if Kelsea will not be part of the remaining slots, it was pretty evident that Kelsea already left a mark in “The Voice.” People will quickly remember her, and the coaches will undoubtedly continue monitoring her progress in the music industry.

Team Alicia: Johnny Bliss

During Johnny’s first Live Playoffs performance, he sang a Spanish song and all were impressed. But tonight, he sang a little bit mainstream song titled “One And Only” by Adele.

Johnny’s rendition of the song was okay, and he hit the right notes too. However, Johnny needs to pray and hope that people will vote for him.

“The Voice” continues Tuesday, April 24th, with “The Live Top 12 Eliminations” at 8/7c on NBC.
