The Witcher Season 1 Episode 6 Recap - Rare Species

[00:01:00] Geralt and Jaskier were on a quest. Geralt was paid by two men to slay a beast, but he hadn’t returned after an hour. One of the men decided to take their money and Roach along with them. Jaskier tried to stop the two men; however, they didn’t take him seriously. An old man arrived along with two women. He stopped the two men from leaving. Again, the man didn’t take the warnings seriously. He ridiculed the old man, which cost him his life. One of the women snapped his neck like a twig. Geralt exited the cave and threw the beast’s head on the ground. He saw the other man holding his money. The man dropped all of his belongings, threw Geralt his payment, and left.

[00:02:00] The old man introduced himself as Borch Three Jackdaws. His associates were Tea and Vea. He claimed to be looking for Geralt and was relieved he had finally found him. Borch asked Geralt and Jaskier to dine with him so that he could explain his woes. A green dragon had landed within the borders of King Niedamir’s mountains. The King is set to marry the princess of his rival kingdom and cannot have a dragon on the loose. The King commissioned a hunt for the dragon. The winner gets to keep the dragon treasure hoard and become lord of an estate in the King’s domain. Borch wanted Geralt to be part of his team to search and slay the dragon.

[00:05:00] All the other teams were present at the bar. Borch still couldn’t manage to convince Geralt to join his team. Geralt advised Borch that no treasure is worth dying for. Borch explained that he wasn’t after the treasure. He’s looking for one last adventure before he gets too old for it. Borch knew that the mountain path was full of monsters. He invited Geralt to join his team for the thrill of the hunt, but even that didn’t work. Jaskier asked Borch who the fourth team was. Yennefer arrived with the fourth team, and all of Jaskier’s excitement went away. His eagerness to join the team turned into reluctance. Geralt, on the other hand, saw Yennefer and immediately said yes to Borch’s offer.

[00:07:00] Morning came, and the teams assembled on the mountain path. One of the teams was made up of dwarfs. The leader introduced himself as Yarpen Zigrin. He told Geralt that he would fetch a good price if he would sell Roach before their quest. Jaskier found it funny that everyone wanted to get their hands on Roach. Geralt explained that Yarpen thought they wouldn’t make it back alive from the quest. Yennefer approached Geralt and asked him why she couldn’t get rid of him. Jaskier responded that Witchers are always bound to run into monsters which is why she couldn’t get rid of him. Yennefer was with Sir Eyck’s hunting party. Geralt seemed jealous of Sir Eyck as Yennefer touched his cheek.

[00:09:00] The Doppler accompanied Cirilla and Dara out of the Brokilon forest. They hadn’t left the forest, but Cirilla had already bombarded the Doppler with multiple questions about Geralt and the law of promise. The Doppler was starting to get irritated with all of Cirilla’s questions. He told Cirilla that she would be with Geralt in no time. Meanwhile, Jaskier encountered a Hirikka on the mountain path. He quickly ran towards Geralt. Geralt told everyone that the Hirikka was harmless, but Sir Eyck didn’t care. He drew his sword and killed the Hirikka, much to everyone’s dismay. Sir Eyck roasted the Hirikka’s remains and ate with all the other teams. Yennefer told Eyck that the Hirikka’s meat might not be good to eat, but he ate it anyway. After a few moments of bragging, Eyck’s stomach started grumbling. He ran away to take a shit and left Yennefer.

[00:15:00] Geralt told Jaskier that dragons were real. He stated that the rarest dragons are colored black. The most common is green, like the one they’re hunting at the moment. Borch responded that the rarest dragon is gold. Geralt explained that gold dragons are caused by a mutation. In Geralt’s experience, mutations are manmade hence his reasoning that a gold dragon isn’t rare; it doesn’t exist. Dara was starting to question the Doppler as he couldn’t explain how he escaped the Nilfgaardians. He answered that Geralt had saved him and told him to look for Cirilla. Dara tried to convince Cirilla to ask the right questions; however, she didn’t listen to him. The Doppler took out Queen Calanthe’s scarf in order to prove his identity to Cirilla. The scarf worked like a charm as Cirilla continued to accompany the Doppler on the way to town.

[00:20:00] The next morning, Yennefer woke up and began searching for Sir Eyck. They found his corpse in a ditch. Someone killed him as he was taking a shit the night before. Since Yennefer was traveling alone after that, Geralt invited her to join their party. Geralt asked Yennefer what she was doing looking for a dragon. Yennefer responded that she needed the dragon because of its healing properties. Geralt knew that Yennefer was looking for the dragon’s heart because of rumors that it restored fertility. He told Yennefer that dragon hearts didn’t have healing properties, but Yennefer disagreed with him. Geralt managed to convince Yennefer to join their party. Borch formed a temporary alliance with Yarpen as they joined forces to made use of the dwarves’ secret route.

[00:25:00] Cirilla continued to bombard the Doppler with a series of questions about her past as well as Mousesack’s hometown of Skellige. Mousesack just continued to agree with Cirilla, but all of her questions were just tricks. Mousesack’s hometown was Cintra, and he hated the cold despite what the Doppler told Cirilla about missing the cold. The Doppler had had enough chitchat. He finally revealed himself to Cirilla. Dara wounded the Doppler enough for him to drop his disguise. Cirilla told Dara to kill the Doppler, but he hesitated. The Doppler knocked Dara out. Cirilla tried to kill the Doppler herself, but she was too weak. The Doppler disarmed her, causing Cirilla to run away to escape.

[00:27:00] The party finally arrived at the secret route. It was a shortcut indeed, but the path was too narrow for a normal person. It consisted of planks nailed to the mountainside. A sheer cliff awaited anyone who dared to cross the planks. The dwarves were able to cross the planks easily; however, it proved to be difficult for Borch and his team. They moved slowly across the plank. The combined weight of six people caused the planks to break apart. Borch, Tea, and Vea hung from the chains. Geralt tried to save them, but Borch knew that saving them was impossible. The planks wouldn’t be able to hold their weight. Borch thanked Geralt for giving him one last adventure even though it was cut short. Borch let go of the chains and fell to his death. Tea and Vea let go as well and followed Borch to his death.

[00:30:00] Jaskier told Geralt that there was nothing else that he could do to save them. Jaskier added that they should go visit the beach soon to take some time off and relax. Geralt went to Yennefer’s tent. It looked small from the outside, but she placed some kind of spell in order to make it bigger inside. Yennefer started kissing Geralt, but he stopped to smell her first. Geralt told Yennefer that he always kept forward to her scent. Geralt would miss Yennefer each time that she left. Yennefer responded that Geralt left her first during their first meeting at the mayor’s house. The two of them kissed as Geralt started undressing Yennefer. They continued their conversation in bed. She asked Geralt what he would’ve chosen if he was given the choice of deciding his own destiny.

[00:34:00] Geralt responded that it was too long ago for him to remember what he wanted to be. He didn’t choose to be a witcher, same as Yennefer. Geralt asked Yennefer if she had ever dreamt of being a mother. She told Geralt that she dreamed of being important to someone one day. He was starting to doze off while telling Yennefer that she was important to him. Morning came, and Yennefer thought Geralt would be gone. She turned around and saw Geralt lying beside her. Yennefer and Geralt got up, but the dwarves were gone. Geralt thought they were going to turn around and go down the mountain, but Yennefer had other plans. She really wanted to kill the dragon, despite Geralt’s disapproval. Geralt told Yennefer that killing the dragon wouldn’t solve her problems, but Yennefer is convinced that the dragon’s heart will solve her problems.

[00:38:00] Yennefer set off to find the dwarves. Cirilla continued to run from the Doppler. Another man found her and put her to sleep before she could retaliate. It was the black knight. He offered Cirilla a drink, but she refused. The black knight knew something was off. The girl that he took wasn’t Cirilla; it was the Doppler. He told the black knight that he had lied to them. He didn’t tell the Doppler who or what Cirilla is. The two of them ended up fighting over Cirilla. The Doppler managed to get away from the black knight. The knight tried to follow him out of the room, and he thought the Doppler was disguising as a customer in the bar.

[00:42:00] Yennefer managed to find the dwarves before they got to the dragon cave. She placed a spell on them to stop them from reaching the cave. Yennefer entered the cave and found the green dragon sleeping inside. Tea and Vea showed themselves to defend the green dragon. Geralt arrived just in the nick of time. He stopped the fight before it even began. Yennefer realized that the green dragon was dead. Tea and Vea told her that the green dragon was female. All of a sudden, a gold dragon came swooping in. It was none other than Borch. Tea and Vea explained that his real name was Villentretenmerth. He had heard the cries of the green dragon when she suffered her injuries. The green dragon died before they arrived; however, they couldn’t move her egg, or the life inside would die.

[00:45:00] Boholt and his team arrived and started attacking. Yennefer declared that she was going to kill Boholt. Geralt used his powers to push Boholt and his men out of the cave. Villentretenmerth told them to leave the egg to him. One man tried to get near the egg, and he burned him alive. The fight continued as Boholt nearly killed Geralt. Yennefer took her dagger and stabbed Boholt’s neck, instantly killing him. Meanwhile, Jaskier woke up in camp and found that he was all alone. He went to the dragon’s cave and saw the aftermath of the battle. Boholt and his men were dead on the ground. Yennefer’s spell on the dwarves wore off. They ran towards the dragon cave, but they had missed the whole battle.

[00:48:30] Villentretenmerth changed back to Borch. He gave the dwarves a few pieces of dragon teeth as proof that they had slain the green dragon. Yarpen responded that a few teeth might not be enough to convince the King. Borch responded that if the teeth do not suffice, the King will receive the dragon’s corpse on his wedding day. Yarpen and his men took the dragon teeth and celebrated. Meanwhile, Cirilla was bound to a tree and gagged using Calanthe’s scarf. She heard someone approaching her from behind. Cirilla thought it was her end, but the person approaching her was Dara.

[00:50:00] Dara argued with Cirilla. He told her that if they had just stayed in Brokilon, they would’ve been safe from harm. Cirilla responded that she wouldn’t have known that the Doppler was an impostor. Dara told Cirilla that she was just like her grandmother. That she brought terror and death wherever she went. Cirilla told Dara that she needed to move on and get away from all of it. Dara agreed, but he wasn’t going with her. They parted ways as Dara refused to get himself involved.

[00:52:00] Borch thanked both Geralt and Yennefer for saving the egg. He told them that the legacy of dragons would endure because of their help. Borch told Yennefer that he now sees why Geralt didn’t want to lose her. Geralt explained that he made a wish to the Djinn that he didn’t want to lose her. Yennefer understood that it was magic. She had thought Geralt loved her; however, it was his wish that kept them closer. Geralt tried to explain, but their conversation turned into an argument. Borch interfered and told them the hard truth. He told Yennefer that she would never regain her womb. He also told Geralt that he would lose Yennefer whether he liked it or not. Hearing those words, Yennefer told Borch that Geralt had already lost her. Yennefer left without saying another word.

[00:54:00] Geralt told Borch that he wanted to show him what he was missing. He pointed out that Yennefer was already leaving, and she was what he was missing. Borch responded that his destiny was still out there, and he knew it. Geralt blamed everything on Jaskier. He told him that it would be a blessing if life would take him out of his hands. Jaskier decided to leave Geralt for what he said. Meanwhile, Fringilla arrived at the bar and found the black knight. He had slaughtered everyone inside, thinking that one of them was the Doppler. The black knight’s name was Cahir. Fringilla told Cahir that they would find Cirilla. She gave him a pep talk in order to get his head straight. Cahir told Fringilla to get their men ready as they could not fail their leader. He claims that the time of the sword and ax is getting nearer.
