Twin Peaks Star Kyle Maclachlan Promises The Show Will Make Sense In The End

The latest revival of David Lynch’s “Twin Peaks” has been a slight deviation from its cheerful-dark tone in the previous seasons. New characters were introduced, and the show also took on a very dark route for its story. Kyle Maclachlan, who plays Agent Dale Cooper, understands why some fans might feel confused by the show’s darker and weirder revival. Maclachlan says that it will all add up pretty soon.

The anticipation for the return of “Twin Peaks” was widely received to its hardcore fans. However, the show proved to be something ahead of its time; “Twin Peaks” couldn’t simply hang on to a specific and reliable audience. But with the new season, even the most devoted of the shows fans have been deeply concerned as to where the show is going.

Kyle MacLachlan on Twin Peaks Season 3: ‘It’s all going to make sense’

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, MacLachlan acknowledged the mixed reception of fans and critics for “Twin Peaks” Season 3. He also promises that most of the series’ odd choices and directions will ultimately make sense.

“I think we all knew it was going to be a challenging journey for the audience, simply because it is 18 parts of one giant piece, and it’s sequential, so people really have to stay with it. And also that David’s storytelling is filled with imagery and different perspectives and characters and things that may initially be confusing to people, but ultimately everything will come back together and make sense. It will be clear. But it’s challenging, you know?”

The actor also noted an undeniable truth: Lynch’s directorial style has changed considerably, opting to shy away from the nostalgia-driven revivals of the recent years. “The other part of that is there has been a real, complete love from a large part of the audience for this new direction of Twin Peaks. No one has ever seen anything like this on television before,” MacLachlan said.

“But I knew it would be difficult for people. Many people wanted the nostalgic return to the Twin Peaks that they remembered. And that’s not what we’re representing here. There are a lot of new stories going forward.”

One of the newest additions to the “Twin Peaks” storyline is Dougie Jones. So far, he’s been the center of the series, and it seems like he is a key part for Agent Cooper to finally make it out of The Black Lodge and come face to face with Killer BOB.

“Twin Peaks” continues this Sunday, 9 PM on Showtime.
