Mysterious 'Walking Dead' Tweet Has Fans In a Frenzy

We’re a few months away from the premiere of The Walking Dead Season 9 this fall, but fans are already clamoring for a confirmation if the things they’ve been hearing about for the past weeks are real or not. New Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang recently teased that the women of the show will have a significant role in the upcoming season, but did not comment on the departure of Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohan—who plays Rick and Maggie—after the ninth season.

That said, fans aren’t sure anymore if this is indeed true. Adding to that is a mysterious tweet from the Walking Dead comics’ Twitter page. It’s not much, but the five words that make up the tweet sparked massive fan hysteria.

Now, this tweet could be another teaser for the recent comic book storyline, but then again the Twitter page also promotes stuff about the upcoming season of The Walking Dead. This also led fans to believe that since AMC remains tight-lipped about Lincoln and Cohan’s exit, it might not be the case after all. Here are some reactions:

It remains to be seen what The Walking Dead Season 9 has in store for fans and casual followers. It’s a fact that the show experienced a steady decline in viewership, but it still is AMC’s most popular series. Apart from the departure rumors, it’s confirmed that a larger storyline will indeed happen for the ninth season.

In the season 8 episode titled “The Key,” Jayne Atkinson was introduced into the show as Georgie. In the comics, she is the leader of a political community known as “The Commonwealth.” Georgie left Maggie a book containing plans for rebuilding civilization after the apocalypse. Although Georgie only appeared in that episode, the season 8 finale did hint at Rick’s desire to build a “New World” after they won the war against Negan.  Set photos also seemed to hint that The Commonwealth will indeed be a part of The Walking Dead Season 9.

Whatever the case may be, this cryptic tease does raise some eyebrows and make fans go crazy over the possible implications.
