Zac Efron Stars in a Ridiculously True Story in The Greatest Beer Run Ever

The Farrelly Brothers are best known for their work on comedy, and one Peter Farrelly is teaming up with Apple TV+ to tell one ridiculous true story.

Here’s the trailer for The Greatest Beer Run Ever starring Zac Efron:

Here’s the official description:

Chickie (Zac Efron) wants to support his friends fighting in Vietnam, so he does something wild—personally bring them American beer. What starts as a well-meaning journey quickly changes Chickie’s life and perspective. Based on a true story.

While the title does sound like it’s a typical college/stoner film, it’s actually based on the book The Greatest Beer Run Ever: A Memoir of Friendship, Loyalty, and War by John “Chick” Donohue and J.T. Molloy. The book had come out back in 2020, and two years later, we’re going to be getting the film.

Though Peter Farrelly had worked on several comedies before like There’s Something About Mary and Shallow Hal, he has since moved over to more serious movies like the Academy Award-winning Green Book. While I do expect Beer Run to have its serious moments, I think that we could get some of that signature Farrelly humor as the movie goes along. I mean, besides the Ted Bundy movie, Zac Efron has proven that he actually has some comedy chops, being able to stand opposite the likes of Seth Rogen in Neighbors.

The Greatest Beer Run Ever comes out Sept. 30 in theaters and on Apple TV+.
