13 Reasons Why Season 2 Officially Confirmed

It looks like all the hard work paid off really well as we’ve now just learned that “13 Reasons Why” has been officially renewed for season 2. The show is one of Netflix’s biggest successes to date, becoming one of the most famous TV shows to have ever caused a massive Twitter storm. It has also become one of the most controversial shows, after being criticized for glorifying suicide, or that it gives young adults some dangerous and actionable ideas about it. Based on a novel of the same name by Jay Asher, “13 Reasons Why” shows the story of Hannah Baker in her final days before she died, leaving behind 13 tapes as the reasons why she chose to commit suicide.

Christian Navarro, who plays Tony, announced the news via a teaser that he posted on his Instagram which you can watch below.

Possible Themes For 13 Reasons Why Season 2

The first season of “13 Reasons Why” particularly dealt with issues like rape, bullying and abuse. It does spur talks online and everywhere, which can be a good thing and an understanding take on issues like these. For the second season though, it looks like the show will dive deeper into the subject matters raised in the first season.

Season 1 ended with Hannah’s suicide and was left viewers with very open-ended questions. Character storylines were left hanging: Alex shot himself and was in the hospital in critical condition, Justin left town after being shunned by his mother, Tyler owning a complete set of guns and ammo, and not to mention Hannah’s parents getting a copy of and listening to the tapes. Remember that they are in a legal battle over the school for their daughter’s death. The lingering question remains: where do they go from here?

“13 Reasons Why” season 2 can also examine Jessica’s story; the fact that she mustered up enough courage to tell her dad about her rape needs to be addressed. For sure, Justin will be prosecuted right? Navarro has also previously stated that he’d like to see his relationship with Hannah shown in the series as well.

With no second book for “13 Reasons Why,” season 2 is completely working on a blank slate. But one thing is for sure: the show will definitely face controversy head to head and spark another swirl of mixed reactions and discussions while doing so.

There is no release date set for “13 Reasons Why” season 2 yet. But in the meantime, you can watch the teaser trailer below:
