Austin Amelio's 'Walking Dead' Character Dwight Moves to 'Fear the Walking Dead'

After being banished by Daryl (Norman Reedus) from Alexandria and never heard of again in The Walking Dead season 9, we’ll finally get an update on the whereabouts of Austin Amelio’s Dwight.

TheWrap reports that following Lennie James’ Morgan, Amelio is set to join the cast of Fear the Walking Dead season 5. This move makes him the second TWD mainstay to crossover to the companion series. Amelio’s role in the next season of Fear the Walking Dead remains to be seen, but it’s indeed logical considering the many time jumps that The Walking Dead season 9 experienced. With Dwight long and gone from the main show, it’s about time for his character to appear on the other side of the zombie fence.

The war between Rick’s (Andrew Lincoln) and Negan’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) Saviors ravaged on for two-and-a-half seasons with Dwight eventually helping Rick gain the upper hand. But it turns out that what Dwight did wasn’t enough as the Saviors eventually learned about his secret allegiance to Rick. When he was freed after the war, Daryl decided to spare Dwight, banishing him from the vicinity of the three communities. The last time we see Dwight is when he returns to his former house to find a note left by Sherry, his wife.

Considering all the trouble that Morgan had to go through for his newfound friends in Fear the Walking Dead, it does make sense for Amelio to join the crew to add support for their growing team. And with Daniel Salazar’s (Rubén Blades) imminent return, things might just look a bit hopeful for Fear, considering how many of its fans expressed disbelief over how the fourth season was handled.

Amelio joins the cast of Fear the Walking Dead comprised of James, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Colman Domingo, Danay Garcia, Alexa Nisenson, Garret Dillahunt, Maggie Grace, and Jenna Elfman.

Fear the Walking Dead season 5 premieres sometime this Fall. The Walking Dead returns Sunday, February 10th, at 9/8c on AMC.
