BLINDSPOT: The Team Pulls Together Even as They Pull Apart in

By Pauline Perenack

After last week’s episode, we were once again left without any answers to the overall mysteries of Blindspot, and it’s getting to the point where fans don’t seem to really care. We’ve established that Jane is Taylor Shaw, but based on how she’s settled in with the team, fans could care less about who she was as a child. And, with half of the team now focused on Mayfair, Jane’s case has been moved to the back burner.

The mystery of Oscar, and who he is exactly and who he works for however, continues to grow, and is something that will hopefully begin to resolve itself.

Tonight’s episode anagram decodes from “Of Whose Uneasy Route” to “To Your New Safehouse” and seems to indicate there will be a shift in where everyone’s loyalties lie.

This makes sense since the team is trapped in close quarters tonight when criminal hackers infiltrate the FBI building, sending it into lockdown.

Don’t Break Any More Windows

If I’m going to be honest about this episode, the first 55 minutes really weren’t necessary. Sure, we got to see Zapata finally confront Mayfair, and were treated to some more amazing one-liners from Patterson, but the meat of the episode was in the final five minutes. Because finally, finally, the puzzle pieces we’ve been getting all season are starting to fall into place. We see now that every single mission Oscar gave Jane this year had a single purpose – to indict Mayfair. And now you have to start to question – was it Jane plotting this all along, which is why she tattooed Weller’s name on her to get onto Mayfair’s team? Or is Oscar really the mastermind behind this whole thing? And if Sofia gave the money to Alexandra/Donna, that must mean she’s working with Oscar, and not Carter. So why did she switch teams?

It looks as though Jane is now officially Team Weller after her realization that Oscar betrayed her. At this point, Oscar would have to have a really good explanation as to why Mayfair was set up for murder in order to sway Jane back to his team, but I doubt Jane will listen. She was already losing faith in Oscar, and this will be the last straw. At some point however, Jane is going to have to tell Weller what she’s done, and we’ve already seen how Mayfair acted with Zapata’s team jump, so we can only assume Weller will react in a similar fashion.

I was disappointed with Reade’s character development (or lack thereof) this week, because once again, he didn’t say anything when pushed on a topic. Last week Zapata pushed him, and this week Sarah pushed him, and both times, he didn’t have an answer. Eventually we’re going to need to see some character growth, or Reade needs to go.

Also, is it just me? Or does Sawyer’s age keep changing? When we saw him, he appeared to be about 6. Then last week, I swear Weller was talking about Sawyer being 8 years old, but tonight, Weller made mention that Sawyer was 10. Will we be getting an actor switch next season? Or with Sarah talking about moving to Portland, is this essentially the death of the Weller family drama?

Next week looks to be really interesting with Oscar once again making an appearance. Jane is obviously not going to be happy about the betrayal, and the team is going to have to fight for Mayfair’s innocence. Will it bring them closer together? Or will everyone’s secrets come to light and break the already fraying trust on the team?
