Castlevania Season 4 Episode 8 Recap - Death Magic

Night Battles

Night creatures start swarming the underground court led by Ratko and Varney. The people huddled inside are stunned as the demons start their relentless slaughter. Trevor moves in front of Ratko and a duel ensues between them. Sypha controls the holy water flowing through the tunnels to defend themselves. Meanwhile, Varney is busy looking for a mirror that can get him closer to Dracula.

The Danesti villagers start arming themselves with salted weapons to face the incoming attack from Dragan’s forces. As they die, their souls turn into red orbs and are absorbed into Saint Germain’s magical stones.

Saint Germain puts his key in Alucard’s room and a magical gateway starts to open. He then opens his tome to complete the spell.

Alucard arrives at the frontlines to bolster their defenses, slicing and dicing through night creatures he comes across. The Danesti folk give a good fight, but too many of them fall, feeding souls into Saint Germain’s spells.

Dragan then unleashes a massive monster that spews fire across the battlefield, forcing the villagers back to the castle. Greta pulls Alucard in just as soon as the doors close and the locking mechanism falls in place. Yet after only a brief pause, the creatures start battering on the doors.

Death Magic

As they prepare for their defenses indoors, Greta and Alucard notice the red light fluttering toward his childhood room. They follow it and discover Saint Germain conducting a ritual to open the Infinite Corridor.

Saint Germain apologizes to them for using the souls of the dead. He’s opening a portal to hell, using Dracula’s location of death as a catalyst. He plans on summoning Dracula and Lisa Tepes to lock them inside a Rebis. Alucard draws his sword but he cannot pass through. Saint Germain claims to be doing this as a way to find his lover, control the corridor and be renowned as an alchemist. He wants to achieve his magnum opus and bind the Rebis to him.

Greta pulls Alucard downstairs to defend the remaining villagers, leaving Saint Germain as he fancies himself a god. The Night creatures finally breach the doorway. Alucard launches away his sword to kill off the largest target.

Back in Targoviste, Sypha is scrambling to protect the scattered people as much as she could. Trevor and Ratko’s duel continues fairly evenly and the two resort to using their dirty tricks. Sypha continues to hurl all of her spells against the enemy while Varney sneaks around to look for the mirror.

Back to where it started

Ratko manages to pin Trevor to the ground but is saved by a pair of humans. The vampire strikes at them in anger, but Zamfir moves in to receive the blow, which plunges into her stomach. Trevor pulls out his newly found weapon and stakes Ratko in the chest. The vampire fizzles into blue light.

Zamfir’s last words were to Sypha, asking her to finish the deed. Sypha explodes in fury, obliterating the night creatures.

Varney stumbles into the throne room with the dead king and queen. He kicks both corpses in frustration, causing the curtain to fall and revealing the magic mirror that he’s been searching for all this time.

Trevor and Sypha sense magic behind them as Varney uses the mirror to teleport into Saint Germain’s location. He’s come to supervise his ritual summoning.

The mirror’s point of view starts shifting location. After some brief rumination, Trever and Sypha manage to enter before the mirror’s location shifts further away.

Our Thoughts

Now all the plot threads are neatly combined. Excited to see the final conflict.
