Familiar Wife Season 1 Episode 13 Recap

When Wu-jin wakes up, she sees she‘s back in 2006. She immediately talks to her mom and asks how she feels. To her relief, her mother is not yet sick. Wu-jin asks where her father is. Her mother says he is already at the airport, leaving for work, and be gone for some time. They know her father will miss his hospital checkup because of work. Wu-jin changes into her uniform and rushes to the airport. She knows she has to convince her father not to leave. When she gets there, she convinces her father to stay and tells him that no matter what, he shouldn’t miss his checkup. After talking to her daughter, Wu-jin’s father calls someone on the phone to discuss the work he will have to miss. While she waits for her father, Wu-jin sees a man begging his girlfriend not to leave him. When she comes closer, she recognizes that it’s Jong-hu. Jong-hu is begging his girlfriend not to break up with him. He promises to be better, but his girlfriend seems to be determined to leave him. Wu-jin helps Jong-hu buy some time, and when he has the chance, he tells his girlfriend that he will marry her. When his girlfriend hears it, she smiles and decides not to leave Jong-hu anymore.

Wu-jin goes to the bus station where she’s supposed to meet Ju-Hyeok for the first time, but Ju-Hyeok is not there. She realizes Ju-Hyeok is hiding from her because he knows they are both back in time. Wu-jin visits Ju-Hyeok’s Yeonghui University, still determined to meet him. She sees Sang-Sik, who is still a college student, and asks him where Ju-Hyeok is. Because Wu-jin says she needs something from Ju-Hyeok, Sang-Sik has no choice but to bring Wu-jin to their apartment.

Ju-Hyeok wakes up inside his old apartment as a college student. He knows Wu-jin will look for him because she wants to fix their future together, so instead of attending class, he decides to stay home. He receives a call from Sang-Sik about a high school girl looking for him. He tells Sang-Sik not to bring the girl to their apartment, but it’s too late because they are already on their way. Ju-Hyeok gets out of bed and runs out of their apartment. By the time Wu-jin gets to the apartment, Ju-Hyeok has already left. Wu-jin continues to look for Ju-Hyeok. She eventually sees him hiding from her. Ju-Hyeok runs away from Wu-jin as fast as possible and gets inside a nearby cab, but Wu-jin catches up to him and gets inside the same cab. “Wu-jin, please don’t do this. We are not meant to be together,” Ju-Hyeok says. “Our fates are intertwined and I’m following it again,” Wu-jin says. Ju-Hyeok gets out of the taxi. When he turns around and sees a motorcycle about to hit Wu-jin, he runs and pushes her out of the way. When they open their eyes, they are back to 2018.

When Wu-jin sees her mom, she asks her about her father. Her mom says her father died three years ago. Wu-jin’s mom doesn’t have Alzheimer’s this time because she got to spend more time with her husband. Wu-jin goes to work that day and asks her friend if a position is available in a different branch. After work, she goes to what she thinks is Sang-Sik’s restaurant, but another person in their current timeline owns it. Sang-Sik and Ju-Eun are also not yet married.

When Ju-Hyeok wakes up, he realizes he’s been gone from work for a few months, hiking. When he returns, everybody is happy to see him. After work, he goes out to drink with Sang-Sik and Jong-hu. When it’s time to go home, he sees the strange man from the train station. This time, the old man is a taxi driver who looks better than before. “You should stop punishing yourself and try to be happy,” the old man says. Ju–Hyeok gets off at the bus stop and sees Wu-jin. While Ju-Hyeok stands outside the gates, Wu-jin’s mom arrives and asks him what he’s doing there. Ju-Hyeok lies and says he’s only looking at the gates because he finds them beautiful. Ju-Hyeok buys all the products that Wu-jin’s mom sells, so the old lady thinks of him as a VIP customer.

The next day, Mr. Byeon tells Ju-Hyeok to go to the head office to request his reinstatement and training. Knowing that Wu-jin works at the head office, Ju-Hyeok takes extra care in walking inside the building, but while signing some papers, Wu-jin sees and approaches him. “I haven’t given up yet. On you. So, you just wait. I will be back,” Wu-jin says. That night, she sees Ju-Eun and tells her she knew her from their previous place. Quickly, they become friends and spend the night talking about each other’s lives.

Because of a mistake in handling one of the clients’ accounts, the branch manager realizes they need more staff. Someone suggests they move Hwan to the Loan Team and hire someone for the Deposit Team. Ju-Hyeok remembers he gave the suggestion before, so they hired Wu-jin. This time, he opposes the idea and insists Hwan stays with the Deposit Team. When Wu-jin hears there is no opening for the loan team in Ju-Hyeok’s branch, she loses hope, but then she sees the branch manager in the head office and tells him she has always wanted to work with their team. The branch manager seems happy with the compliments he receives from Wu-jin, so the next day when he arrives at the office, he tells the team leaders that they will be hiring someone for the deposit team, not the loan team. Jong-hu tells Ju-Hyeok, “You need to fix your itchy feet, so you can get married.” “I’m so sick and tired of everyone talking about marriage,” Ju-Hyeok replies. Ju-Hyeok doesn’t know that Wu-jin is already outside their office, ready to work with the deposit team.

Our Thoughts

It‘s back in the past again, but this time, Wu-jin is the one chasing Ju-Hyeok. He knows what‘s happening but doesn’t want to be with Wu-jin again. If Ju-Hyeok doesn’t want to be with her anymore, then maybe she should just date someone else. Ju-Hyeok seems to be determined not to get married again, anyway.

Looking at things, we came to realize something. Maybe they had met each other too early before, so their marriage didn’t work out. When Ju-Hyeok went back in time and met Wu-jin when they were adults, Wu-jin was much braver and happier, so how she handled things when they met as adults was much different than how she took things when they were too young. Maybe Ju-Hyeok and Wu-jin are meant to be. Still, Ju-Hyeok didn’t want to be with her anymore. Yet knowing Ju-Hyeok, we are sure he will change his mind — he always does.
