HBO Max Drops the Full Dance Intro of Peacemaker

He may have been the surprise antagonist of The Suicide Squad, but John Cena’s Peacemaker has gotten the spotlight in his own series from HBO Max. The series is nothing short of weird, and HBO has decided to release the show’s kooky dance intro.

Watch this:

If anything, the dance intro is very reminiscent of another dance number directed by James Gunn in 2010’s Super starring Rainn Wilson. If you watch around 1:47, almost the same rigid dances are made in Peacemaker as well as the stoic, serious faces:

Peacemaker has been getting a lot of praise with three episodes out, and it’s clear that Gunn wants to really delve into the father issues that Chris Smith is going through, all at the same time grappling with the meaning of ‘Peace’.

While the writing can definitely use some more finesse, the characters bounce off each other really well, and you love to watch Cena as an awkward, muscle-bound, superhero wannabe. Besides Peacemaker, Gunn has also created an interesting character in the murderous psychopath Vigilante; besides having no qualms about killing, he’s kind of what internet incels aspire to be.

At least, that’s how I read it.

PEACEMAKER explores the continuing story of the character that John Cena reprises in the aftermath of Gunn’s 2021 film “The Suicide Squad”– a compellingly vainglorious man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it.

Watch Peacemaker now available on HBO Max.
