Lucifer Season 3 Episode 1 Recap - They're Back, Aren't They?

[00:00:50] Lucifer stopped an armored truck and hopped in. He asked the driver to take him to LA, but the driver refused. Lucifer recognized the driver as the robber that they had apprehended while searching for his mother. The man recognized Lucifer and asked him to step out of the armored truck. Lucifer asked the man about his desires; the man responded that he just wanted his freedom. The police managed to catch up to the armored truck; however, Lucifer stepped out and told them that he was with the LAPD. One of the officers asked him about the location of the thief. Lucifer told them that the thief had escaped, but he wouldn’t be seen for a very long time. He had brokered a deal with the thief and allowed him to run across the desert in exchange for his freedom.

[00:05:00] Lucifer returned to Lux and approached Linda. He had arranged a little buffet as an apology for almost getting her killed. Linda knew that Lucifer had a hidden agenda and asked him to spill the beans. Lucifer showed her his wings and asked her to cut them off. Linda refused stating that she had almost died the last time she interfered with his problems. Lucifer returned to the precinct where he found out that he had only been gone for two days. Lucifer told Chloe that he had been kidnapped, but she didn’t believe him. He dragged Chloe out to the desert, but instead of finding evidence that he had been kidnapped, they found a dead body.

[00:10:00] Ella processed the crime scene and told them that the victim had died of dehydration. One of the detectives found a keychain and gave it to Dan for processing. Lucifer took the keychain and dragged Ella with him. Ella wanted to process the crime scene twice in order to please the new lieutenant that had joined their ranks. Back at the precinct, Marcus Pierce introduced himself to everyone. Nobody liked him except for Ella, who got him a box of doughnuts. Amenadiel showed up and spoke to Lucifer. He wanted to know what had happened to Goddess as Lucifer’s message hadn’t made any sense to him. Lucifer decrypted his message which was full of emoji’s and told Amenadiel that Goddess bid farewell never to be seen again. Amenadiel couldn’t accept that their mother had left.

[00:14:20] Lucifer didn’t tell Amenadiel that he had gotten his wings back. He thought that Amenadiel had kidnapped him. Amenadiel told Lucifer that he hadn’t gotten his powers back and that he was only able to slow down time at that moment. Lucifer introduced Ella to Amenadiel as she updated him regarding a lead on their case. Lucifer told Amenadiel that he might have a solution for his power problem and offered to text him the details. Amenadiel responded that the text should be in words instead of emojis.

[00:16:50] Chloe and Lucifer went to visit Josh Hamid. Chloe tried to ask him some questions about the Steve Banales murder however he didn’t take them seriously. Josh tried to escape but Chloe cornered him. Lucifer threw him off the roof into the pool below for disrespecting Chloe earlier. They interrogated Josh who thought that getting arrested was part of a prank. He told Chloe and Lucifer about prank wars between him and Steve. Josh hired a team to kidnap Steve for 48 hours as part of his prank; he assumed that when Steve didn’t return he was trying to setup payback. Lucifer told Josh to spill the beans on the team that he hired for the prank.

[00:20:30] Amenadiel arrived at Lux as instructed by Lucifer through his text message. He was greeted by a masseuse who offered her services. She told Amenadiel to remove his clothing and cover himself using a bath towel. Amenadiel went to Lucifer’s room to get a bigger tower, and he discovered Lucifer’s angel wings, which Lucifer had severed off for the second time. Back at the precinct, Ella did her best to track down the team that Josh had hired, but she failed. Lucifer asked Ella if they had any other leads from the crime scene, but they didn’t have any. Chloe told Lucifer that they should check out his connection to the case, and he agreed. Lucifer told Chloe the truth, but she still didn’t believe him.

[00:23:30] Lucifer offered to show Chloe the truth. Ella left them for some privacy; however, Lucifer’s power didn’t work. He wasn’t able to turn himself into the devil, which only made the situation worse for him. Chloe left in disbelief at what Lucifer was trying to accomplish. He tried to explain things further, but she didn’t want to hear any of it.

[00:26:00] Chloe approached Marcus along with Dan and Lucifer to explain the current status of their case. They had hit a dead end, and Marcus didn’t want to accept it. Lucifer suggested that someone needed to get kidnapped in order to apprehend the kidnappers. Marcus agreed and told Dan that he was expendable enough to get kidnapped. Chloe assisted Dan as he prepared to be the fall guy. Dan felt expendable, not because of what Marcus had said, but because Charlotte had used him. He had tried to get back with Charlotte, but since Goddess was no longer using her body, the real Charlotte didn’t remember anything between them. Lucifer tried to console Dan; however, Dan blamed him for everything that had happened between them.

[00:29:00] Amenadiel went to the precinct looking for Lucifer. Ella told him that Lucifer was out with the team on a sting operation. He noticed that Ella had prepared a shoebox with the cross on top. He asked Ella if she was a believer, and she confirmed that she was. Ella wanted to help Amenadiel, but he refused stating that he had a personal problem. Ella told Amenadiel to just trust God and his plan. She added that God worked in mysterious ways. Amenadiel agreed and left.

[00:31:00] Lucifer got another brilliant idea and switched places with Dan. The kidnappers brought Lucifer to a warehouse and planned on torturing him. Lucifer turned things around by escaping from his cuffs and interrogating the kidnappers. They confessed that their previous client was Steve. One of their associates had brought Steve back to his hotel after 48 hours. They provided Lucifer with the other kidnappers address. Lucifer left to check out the lead.

[00:34:00] Back at the precinct, Dan told Ella and Chloe that the detective from the other department was a fake. It seemed that the other police department hadn’t sent a detective to assist them, only beat cops. Chloe and Dan found a photo of the fake detective leaving the crime scene. Ella analyzed the photo and matched the tire prints to a dead squirrel they had found at the crime scene. Lucifer on the other hand was one step ahead of them as he arrived at the apartment of the other kidnapper. He kicked the door down and interrogated the man.

[00:36:00] The man introduced himself as Sam. He hadn’t meant to hurt Steve; however, it seemed that Sam had had two gigs going at the time. He ran when he saw Lucifer’s wings. Sam added that The Sinnerman had hired him. Lucifer wanted to know who The Sinnerman was and where he could find him. Sam responded that you couldn’t find The Sinnerman; The Sinnerman found you. Lucifer tried to get more information, but Chloe arrived with Dan.

[00:38:20] Sam walked out of the precinct. Chloe asked Marcus how it was possible, but he only could only answer that Sam must have friends in high places. Lucifer returned to Lux where Amenadiel was waiting for him. He told Lucifer that he no longer needed to hide the fact that he had gotten his wings back or that he had cut them off again. Lucifer showed Amenadiel that his wings had grown back again. He also asked Amenadiel if he knew anyone named Sinnerman, but Amenadiel didn’t. Lucifer and Chloe went on their next case. They found Sam dead under the pier impaled on a rebar.
