Money Heist Season 5 Episode 5 Recap - Live Many Lives

[00:00:30] It was raining hard as Tokyo ran out of a building. Rene followed after her carrying two suitcases. A security guard opened fire at Rene, but he missed. Rene turned around and killed the guard. Another guard was chasing them. He hid from Rene just as he fired. The guard quickly came out of hiding to kill Rene. Tokyo saw everything. She fired three rounds at the security guard to kill him. Two police vehicles came into view, responding to the shooting. Tokyo took her gun and fled the scene, leaving Rene’s lifeless body on the street. Meanwhile, Sergio and Berlin were watching the news report about the attempted robbery, the death of Rene, and the escape of Tokyo.

[00:02:00] Berlin wanted Tokyo to be part of their heist, but Sergio didn’t like the attention. Tokyo was the most wanted person in Madrid. Tokyo fled the bank and hid inside an underground parking garage. The police followed her wet footprints, but she hid by hanging from the ceiling of a tunnel. She jumped the police officers following her and held them as hostages. She used the police officers to escape by riding their patrol car while holding a pistol to their heads. Berlin praised Tokyo and her police escape. He tried to convince Sergio to take Tokyo with them. Sergio knew Tokyo is dangerous; she had nothing to lose. It’s precisely why Berlin wanted her to be part of the heist. Sergio gave in. He would look for Tokyo if the police couldn’t capture her within 72 hours.

[00:05:00] Tokyo hid for ten days to process her pain and grief. She replayed all her moments with Rene as the pain overwhelmed her. Her grief grew as agony consumed her. She blamed herself for what happened to Rene. He didn’t want to rob a bank, but Tokyo convinced him, which got him killed. From that moment, Tokyo knew she needed to outrun the pain and suffering she felt when Rene died. Tokyo, Denver, and Manila are inside the kitchen, trapped. They are outnumbered and outranked in terms of battle experience. Bullets rained upon them as Sagasta, and his men fired at them. Tokyo tries to return fire, but she does nothing to them. Denver and Manila remove a stone countertop to block the kitchen entrance. Tokyo throws a whole chicken stuffed with a grenade.

[00:08:30] One of Sagasta’s men crawls to the chicken and replaces the grenade pin. He taunts them as he stops the grenade from exploding. Four years ago, Tokyo and Rene took a vacation in Lisbon, Portugal. They needed to end their vacation and return to Madrid, but Tokyo didn’t want to. Rene told Tokyo freedom is expensive; they needed to rob something bigger if they wanted to buy their freedom. Rene asked Tokyo to name a city and promised to take her there someday. Tokyo told him she wanted to go to Tokyo, Japan. It was the first time she chose the city, but they never made it to Japan. The second time she chose Tokyo was to turn her life around as she decided to join Sergio and the team.

[00:12:30] With the countertop in place, they can buy some time. Gandía argues with Sagasta on how to enter the kitchen. Gandía wants to just throw grenades through the corridor and storm the kitchen, but Sagasta has a safer idea. He wants to drill a hole to the pantry and enter the kitchen from there. Gandía knows they don’t have time to drill a hole and go around. Rio tries to hack the security door as Lisbon and Palermo try to push it. Lisbon asks Bogotá how much time he needs to open the door. Rio tells them they can’t drill through it; the door will lock itself. Denver tells Sergio that Gandía and Sagasta are arguing. He tells Tokyo to distract Gandía to force his move — Tokyo’s payback time.

[00:15:30] Tokyo taunts Gandía about being a coward and a snitch. Tokyo even goes as far as insulting him against his own family. Gandía heard enough. He goes against Sagasta’s order and throws a grenade inside the kitchen. Tokyo catches the grenade and throws it back out. Sagasta and his men are caught off guard; one of them gets killed. Rio hears the explosion and runs out to help. Sagasta receives a call from the sniper team; they have a view of the kitchen window. He tells them to stay in position. Sagasta threatens to kill Gandía if he ever disobeys orders again. Meanwhile, Denver and Manila are talking about their relationship. Denver doesn’t believe a thing Manila said on the roof, but she meant it.

[00:21:00] Manila knows Denver isn’t living his life to the fullest. Denver tells her he wants to grow up; the Denver she knew was gone. Manila tells Denver about his dreams: setting up a bar or a martial artist school. Denver tells Manila that Spanish bars don’t exist in Indonesia. Manila argues with Denver, but Tokyo intervenes. She tells Manila it’s still Denver’s life to live. Tokyo reminisces about the time she first met Sergio. He took her to their safe house and offered her freedom. Sergio told her she could be offered a second chance in life. Tokyo was hesitant to accept Sergio’s offer, but she didn’t leave either. Since she didn’t leave, Sergio took it as her way of accepting his offer.

[00:25:30] Back at the museum, Bogotá arrives with the smelting team to bust open the security door. Sagasta sees someone is trying to make their way through the door. Rio asks Stockholm for the jackhammer, but when she turns around, she sees Arturo. Helsinki points to where the jackhammer is and asks Stockholm for some morphine. He knows the look on Stockholm‘s face — it‘s her first kill, so he tells her she’s just in shock; it will pass. Rio takes the floor plan of the building and jackhammers his way from below. Tokyo remembers the first time she met Rio. He was a very sweet guy as they lay on the grass to look at the stars. They danced the night away under the stars. Rio continues to hammer at the ceiling while Stockholm drugs herself to sleep.

[00:31:00] Palermo updates Sergio as they keep trying to bust through the security door. Bogotá tells them it will take them six more minutes as Alicia’s baby lets out a loud cry. Palermo and Lisbon are surprised to hear a baby from Sergio’s end. He explains Alicia gave birth to a baby girl. She names her Victoria. Alicia hands her baby to Marseille as she goes to the bathroom. Back in the kitchen, Tokyo and Denver hear drilling sounds from the pantry. They go over to check and see someone drilling from the other side of the wall. Tokyo shoots through the wall, revealing their location. Sagasta tells the sniper team to fire at the pantry. Denver takes cover, but Tokyo gets hit five times, although none are fatal.

[00:36:00] Denver drags Tokyo to safety. She is nearing her deathbed, so she remembers when Rene gave her a snow globe as a gift. Inside the snow globe was a Japanese Samurai. Rene took it as a sign of things to come. He knew Tokyo wanted to go to Japan, but she couldn’t leave her mother behind. Rene finally agreed to rob banks to get the money they needed to provide for Tokyo’s mother and leave Madrid. Denver brings Tokyo away from the sniper’s range. He places a tourniquet on her arms and legs to stop the bleeding. Sagasta and his men are ready to storm the kitchen. Meanwhile, Palermo and Lisbon are almost through the security gate. They are minutes away from an all-out war.

[00:41:00] Stockholm wakes up. She discovers a dumbwaiter connected to the kitchen. She peeks and sees Arturo; she’s still haunted by what happened. Denver, Manila, and Tokyo wait for Sagasta and his men behind a makeshift trench. It looks like it is the end for them, but Stockholm musters all the strength she has to radio him about the dumbwaiter. Denver opens the dumbwaiter, but it is six floors down to the office. With Tokyo’s injury, she can’t climb down. Tokyo knew she‘s about to die. She tells Manila to leave with Denver. Manila disagrees, but Tokyo finds a way to convince her. She tells Manila to lay cushions below so she can jump down. Denver and Manila go down the dumbwaiter. Rio opens a hole on the floor, but it is only big enough for his hand.

[00:46:00] Rio reaches out to Tokyo and holds her hand. He consoles Tokyo by telling her he’s there for her. Sagasta and his men blow the wall and enter through the pantry. Everyone hears the explosion. Tokyo knows it is the end for her. Rio wants to widen the gap, but he doesn’t have enough time. Tokyo bids him farewell, kisses his hand, and winks. Rio continues to widen the hole with his jackhammer. Tokyo remembers her first night with Rio as Sagasta and his team fire at her. Denver and Manila make it down to the office, but Stockholm is too drugged to help them. They laid cushions inside the dumbwaiter, but Tokyo knows she can’t make the jump. Tokyo holds on to Rio’s hand one last time. She tries to fight back, but Sagasta and his men riddle her with bullets.

[00:50:00] Tokyo is still alive as Gandía stands on top of her. Gandía points his pistol at her face. Tokyo opens her hand to reveal some grenade pins. She took out the pins from the grenades strapped to her chest. Gandía shouts to get back as the grenades explode. Everyone knows Tokyo is dead. She did her best to take down Sagasta’s team with her. Sergio tells Benjamin, Marseille, and Alicia that Tokyo died. He goes to the bathroom to mourn as tears run down his face. Rio lay below the kitchen, crying and mourning the loss of Tokyo.
