Record of Ragnarok Season 1 Episode 6 Recap - Great Emulation

My Turn

Before the second bout, we find Shiva stretching and walking towards the arena when Zeus approaches him, smiling. The old man insists on going first. Shiva tries to refute, saying he’s been pumped to fight for a whole eternity, but the old man won’t give in.

He yells in defiance, but Zeus grips the god’s shoulder and tells him it’s his turn. Shiva challenges Zeus to fight for it, but he lets them go after a moment’s hesitation, citing Zeus’ seniority. Hermes is disappointed; he at least wanted to see something.

Zeus is the pushiest bastard of all the gods, after all.

Now we are back for the ultimate battle between god and man: Adam and Zeus. Zeus approaches his foe, saying without a Valkyrie helping him, he won’t stand a chance.

Adam points to the sky. She’s already here: Reginleif, daughter of the gods, seventh of the 13 Valkyries.

Bare Fist

She descends from a winged horse and asks for Adam’s hand. Their arms meet, and Divine Treasure Forge is complete. A weapon condenses into Adam’s fist: a simple knuckle-duster.

The crowd jeers, but Adam thinks it’s a solid weapon.

Heimdall starts the fight. With just a mere knuckle-duster, can Adam really fight against Zeus? The god laughs at his weapon.

Adam quips back, asking for the god’s weapon. Zeus brags his fist is enough.

He charges at him, but Adam dodges the near-light-speed jab. Zeus resolves to not hold back, throwing a flurry of jabs which the human evades. He then unleashes the Meteor Jab as five hands shower the man. Still, Adam keeps dodging each one of them.

First Man

The jabs get faster but to the same result. Zeus throws in a kick known as the Divine Axe. Adam jumps above the god cleanly. Zeus is impressed, but he tells his foe dodging won’t do him any good.

Adam agrees. He does a few rhythmic steps before punching Zeus in the face. The god bleeds. It’s Adam’s time to unleash his punches. His Meteor Jab hits Zeus in the face, followed by a hundred more.

Adam follows with his own Divine Axe, hitting Zeus on the shin. Zeus winces, all bloody and bruised, but he says he likes it.

The humans are all impressed. Brünnhilde reminds Göll that Adam was where it all began.

His Own Image

God created mankind in his own image, and Adam is the first copy. So he can mimic anything the gods can do—the true power of Adam.

Adam’s eyes are beaming with intense light; his technique’s name: Divine Reflection.

Zeus is excited. He jumps around with a stuttering step, promising to ramp up the fight. He throws a kick, Adam dodges. Adam’s feet follow the same rhythm, hitting the god with the same technique. This time, it squarely lands on Zeus, and the god is thrown to the walls of the arena. Adam has replicated the god’s technique yet again.

The Fist That Surpassed Time

The gods can’t believe it. Zeus is like fighting a version of himself. Adam admits he doesn’t want to do it, but this is a competition—he apologizes to a panting Zeus, calling him grandpa.

Zeus gets agitated when Adam calls him grandpa. He says he’s happy, but his body is brimming with red anger. Zeus’ body grows tenfold. He blows into his hand as it pulses with golden energy. It’s the same technique he received from his father.

Zeus learned and mastered the final blow from Cronus. He calls it “The Fist That Surpassed Time.”

Zeus strikes Adam, but the human counters this again. Adam has already copied it.

Everyone in the arena is stunned; they didn’t even get to see what happened.

Our Thoughts

Wow, who knew a line in the Bible could be used in such an anime way? Way to go, Adam, for surpassing even the god’s own strength. I give this episode a 3.5/5.
